Wolfsburg submitted a £15.9m offer for Real Madrid's 21-year-old striker Alvaro Morata. That figure would include a buy-back clause in the contract. Real Madrid have set 2 prices, one with a 2 year buy-back clause at a set fee and a higher one without.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Didier Zokora thinks this is the game Ivory Coast players need to stand up and be counted.

"You know you have a very great talent, who play for a long time together, but you never win a trophy for our country.

"This is the first World Cup we have played with Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, and we need to prove something from the African countries. We have very good players with very good talent."

Kyle Walker has missed the last two major tournaments with injuries and intends to help the heartbreak make him mentally stronger. He is looking forward to getting back in shape for the start of the season.

"It's difficult, I've been here five years now and not really been injured.

"I missed the Euros in 2012 with a broken toe, that was at the end of the season. It's a learning curve, I have to deal with it and hopefully I'll come back stronger and fitter."

French sports newspaper L'Equipe claim Newcastle United have offered former Tottenham target Bafetimbi Gomis £75,000 a week. The 28 year-old former Lyon striker is currently a free agent after scoring 17 goals for Lyon last season.

The bookies have Tottenham as favourites to sign Swansea City striker Wilfred Bony at (5/4) ahead of Everton (4/1), Liverpool (8/1), Arsenal (12/1) and Borussia Dortmund (18/1). Make of that what you will, he is expected to cost whoever buys him around £15 million.

Former Tottenham target Goran Pandev the Napoli forward has indicated he'd like to finish his career at the Italian club. His agent, Carlo Pallavicino, says Napoli is his home.

“I would hate it if Pandev were to leave Napoli. He considers Napoli to be his home, so it would be painful if he had to leave the club.

“The idea has been to end his career at Napoli, but if things change, he might consider a move abroad. However, the team have not called me and this bodes well.”

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has ruled out selling Antonio Candreva. The 27 year-old playmaker had been interesting Tottenham, PSG and Liverpool who were said to be willing to part with £20 million to secure him.

"Candreva is not for sale. We have not spoken to anyone from PSG and we have not received any offers.

Candreva himself wants to play Champions League which would rule Spurs out of signing him.

"A player's ambitions are to do good things and to play at the best clubs and to play in the Champions League.

"I hope to play a good World Cup, then I'll be happy about what will happen."
