Tottenham just a back-up option again

The transfer window has begun, well at least it has in Britain but not yet in the rest of Europe.

Tottenham just a back-up option again

The 11th June see Holland, Turkey and Denmark open their summer transfer windows, on the 16th June they are joined by Romania, while we have to wait until July 1st for France, Germany, Spain and Italian transfer windows to open.

There are other mid-season windows like Sweden and Noway but these are the main windows that concern the Premier League.

One of our targets since the days of Harry Redknapp has been Loic Remy, now 27 and not wanted at Queens Park Rangers. His situation once again demonstrates the constraints Tottenham have to work under in the transfer market.

Spurs have had extensive negotiations with Remy who was on loan at Newcastle last season and is with France for the World Cup at the moment. However just like for Louis Van Gaal, Tottenham is just a fall back position. We can not offer Champions League and Remy will wait for a club to come in for him that can provide it, he hopes Arsenal.

Arsenal have other targets and he is not their first choice. They are chasing German Marco Reus who has missed the World Cup picking up an injury in their last warm up game.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has however dismissed talk of a potential transfer with Manchester United and Barcelona both also interested in the 25 year-old.

Zorc is quoted in German paper Bild as saying regarding Reus:

"I can definitely rule out a transfer this summer."

The is the matter of a release clause in his contract that can be triggered next summer of £28.25 million (€35m) so if the Germans wanted to miximise the money they get for him then he's have to be sold this summer. Only they will know whether they are in a good position to keep him.

Loic Remy remains a back-up option for Arsenal which keeps Spurs holding on with no guarantee of securing our man. We could be left searching for another striker and turning to our own back-up options. Mario Balotelli is another consideration for both clubs for instance.

Nothing is ever simple with Tottenham when it comes to transfer dealings.
