Vertonhghen Staying at Spurs

Jan Vertonghen has done what Sandro and Paulinho have done, commit his future to Spurs, although Sandro's agent has still indicated that his client will look at any offers.

Vertonhghen Staying at Spurs

The news allows Spurs to start to build a centre-back pairing for the new season and means only a maximum of two need to be replaced.

“I’ve got a couple more years at Tottenham and I’m happy, and I want to stay there, so it doesn’t matter who the manager will be."

Clearly he had a problem with Tim Sherwood but only going through the motions for him was wrong and didn't endear himself to the fans who are not blind or stupid.

“He [De Boer] is a good manager but there are other good managers as well so, again, the chairman will make a good decision.”

If Vertonghen is staying that gives us two centre-backs for next season with club captain Michael Dawson obviously staying due to being homegrown and rarely injured.

Younes Kaboul has had a poor season as had new signing Vlad Chiriches so one or both will be let go and a replacement or replacements sourced. At the moment Franco Baldini is trying to negotiate a deal with Fiorentina for highly regarded 23 year-old Stefan Savić. The Italians want Kaboul where we would prefer they took Chiriches.

The Montenegrin international Savić plays on the right side so would form a new centre-back pairing with Belgian Vertonghen. Tottenham has a list of possible options another of which is Arsenal target Fabian Schar, a 22 year-old Swiss cente-back playing for Basel.
