Sandro has been left out of the Brazil squad for the World Cup this summer after failing to regain top form after his long-term injury last season.

his last games for Tottenham he was badly off the pace and didn't seem 100% fit. He was not anticipating like he normally does but instead reacting to events which meant he was behind the play all the time and easily beaten by opponents. He was giving the ball away and having to commit early fouls resulting in bookings and reduced efficiency for the rest of the game.

On form he has not deserved a place in the team. The Beast has always given 100% for Spurs but his comments to ESPN Brazil suggest has not been in the right frame of mind to do that.

“He (Tim Sherwood) will leave at the end of the season. Then, new coach, new everything.

“I do not know anything yet, but I’m happy to have my name talked about with a club the size of Sao Paulo. Anyway, it would be very difficult to leave on loan from here [Tottenham].

“If I was to leave, it would have to be permanently and it is not close. Other teams have come, however, with little money. President (Daniel Levy) negotiates every transfer, this was the case for [Gareth] Bale had the case, it is not easy.”

That gives every indication that Sandro wants to leave and is actively seeking to do so. A new manager as soon as possible is essential to give the players some stability, wondering who the new boss might be and when he might be appointed can not be helpful.

Frank de Boer is top of the list but Tottenham can't talk to him until 18th May at the earliest so uncertainty will be around a little longer yet.

  1. This is the downside of having Toxic Tim in charge. "Sandro hasnt regained top form this season"? Sandro hasnt barely played next to Dembele. Anytime hes had a game its been next to the poacher Paulinho, in front of the laughable Dawson. I think Sandro and Dembele have been treated very badly this season and especially since Sherwood came in and I find it sad but understandable he wants to leave...
  2. Tim doesn't decide a players mentality, only the player themselves do that. The player is the one who decides if he will give his best or be a poor imitation of himself. Sandro has Sandro to blame for not making the World Cup nobody else.
  3. I dont really think Sandro has anything to do with Tim not liking to play defensive midfielders and refusing to play them. Tims pretty much dropped Sandro and tried to sell Capoue from the minute he arrived, has frozen out Dembele and largely only plays attacking mids (bentaleb the exception)...Surprise Surprise our defensive mids are hacked off and in Sandros case I think hes the victim of some complete madness from Daniel Levy in keeping Sherwood around long after he went sour...
  4. It's Les Ferdinand that doesn't like defensive midfielders, Sherwood has maily played with them, Bentaleb is a defensive midfield. Dembele has been injured not frozen out. Capou had the wrong attitude and needed a kick up the backside, quite why you as a fan want to pander to players who don't want to put the effort in in training when they are not an automatic choice I don't know.

    Sandro was dropped because he was half the player he should be and was awful. It would have been bad management if he had not been dropped.
    • ... Sherwood has openly said that he hates " holding " midfielders yet every top club has at least one top class holding midfielder. Sherwood has to go, the whole idea of picking players on how hard they train, in an ideal world, should work.. but it clearly doesnt as leaving our top players out will do more bad than good, as demonstrated this season. Bring in frank de boer, a passionate, skillfull tactitian with proven experience. He is the key to improving players like eriksen, vertonghen, dembele and chadli. Bring in a left back, a left sided winger. Play Eriksen in the middle.. Add some stability to the team and we may just have that promising season we've been promised for years.
  5. Every single club picks players on how they train, to do it any other way is insane. Why have a squad of 25 if you only picks top players despite them being woeful. The absurd idea you should pick on reputation is a route to disaster. You make the incorrect assumption that everyone performs to their best all the time they don't, look at Sandro himself, he has been woeful which is why he was rightly dropped, Paulinho was simply going through the motions so he had to be dropped. In your world a hoplessly out of form Sandro should have been playing with another Brazilian who was saving himself for the World Cup. The days of the same players playing every week have long gone, the game has improved since the 80's.
