Rose replacement targetted

The problem of left-back and how to tighten up the whole left side so that it's comparable with Lennon and Walker on the right surely should have been addressed last summer.

Rose replacement targetted

It seems we put all our eggs in one basket going after Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrão who decided he didn't want to come to Tottenham. We were left with Danny Rose, Benoit Assou-Ekotto having been told by Andre Villas-Boas he'll never play for Tottenham again.

Rose had had a successful loan spell at Sunderland where he was voted their player of the season, but they only just avoided relegation so in effect he was best of some of the worst. His boss at Sunderland pointed out he had a lot to learn defensively and that his positional play was poor.

To a large section of Spurs fans having Rose as our first choice left-back was madness. I myself felt and stated if he payed we would not qualify for the Champions League, I thought him that poor.

He started the season well when he had cover in front of him but his crossing when he went forward was abysmal. We were creating few chances. With a more attacking style he was exposed and our left side once again became our weakness.

This window we have to figure out a way to deal with that. Do we improve the cover in front of him and retain a young home grown player, remember we must name 8 in the squad, or do we look for a better left-back?

I have always felt the latter and we seem to be perennially scouting players but acquiring none of them. The latest name in the frame is Schalke left-back Saed Kolasinac who is a reported target of Manchester United. However Luke Shaw ie believed to have told his teammates he is going to Manchester United for £28 million.

Saed Kolasinac reveals that Manchester United have put a bid in for him as they seek replacements for Patrice Evra. The bid is unknown but it is though around the £4.5 million mark would be required.

“Yes, I have an offer from Manchester United, but I will not hurry with the decision. I have to see what Schalke think about it.”

Could the 6 foot (1.83m) 20 year-old, who has just been called up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina squad, be the answer?

The price is right, his wages wouldn't be a problem and he made more tackles than any other Schalke player last season. He made 24 Bundesliga appearances and 6 Champions League games.

Defensively he is good but attacking his final ball is poor, at 20 he has time to improve this. Kosasinac seems to be the opposite of Danny Rose, short/tall, weak defensively/strong defensively, strong attacking/weak attacking.

Learning positioning is harder than learning to play a final ball so he may be a better bet than Rose in a problem position.
