Former Spurs target Jordy Clasie wants to follow Christian Eriksen
Former Tottenham target Jordy Clasie, a 22 year-old midfielder at Feyenoord is keen to follow Christian Eriksen to a bigger club.
Speaking to Dutch magazine Voetbal International he explained that he wants to improve his game the way Eriksen has improved his since leaving Dutch football for the Premier League.
"Suppose there is a club that puts forward a few million for me. I can well imagine that Feyenoord says: Okay, go ahead then. It'll never go well. When I say that I'll stay and I'm sold, I'm a traitor. If I say I want to go and stay, then I'm not.
"I've trained with top players for a few days during training camps with Oranje. Even then you feel yourself to be better every day. Can you imagine if you do that every day?
"In that respect, I see Christian Eriksen as an example of how I should go. He was well developed at Ajax, goes to Tottenham Hotspur, trains and works every day with better players and you can now see that's he's growing."
Clasie has been called up for training with the Dutch national squad ahead of the World Cup in Brazil, an area where they have a spate of injury worries. He is highly rated and has been at Feyenoord since he was 9. He was promoted to the first team squad for the 2011-12 season.
He is a young defensive midfielder with passion. often the sign of someone with a winning mentality. He is very strong in the tackle and is not intimidated by bigger opponents, being only 1.69m (5' 6") himself. He has an excellent passing range and often sets up attacks from his deep lying base. The Dutch media call him the Dutch Xavi.
His strength is that he has a footballing brain, he is aware of what is around him and knows what passes he has available when he receives the ball which cuts down decision making time. He is an excellent reader of the game and hard to dispossess due the he sharp turns he makes.
With an abundance of midfielders it is not clear whether Spurs are still interested in him.
