VIDEO: Dean Saunders son on Spurs radar

It's well known to fans of English football that Crewe Alexander have one of the best academy set-ups in the lower leagues. They produce a production line of talent and their side is usually made up of players who have come through the system.

Yet another one is being watched by Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, this time it is teenager Callum Saunders. If you recognise the name Saunders you should, his dad is Dean Saunders the former Wales and Liverpool striker who does punditry work on TV. His last role was manager of Wolves until he was sacked after only three and a half months following relegation.

Like his dad Callum is a striker with a scoring instinct. This is what their coach told Crewe fans in 2012 on their website:

"Callum is the son of Liverpool legend Dean Saunders and has been with us since he was very young. A quick forward with great attributes who can do things you can't teach."

The video below shows him scoring a couple of typical strikes goals against Coventry in the FA Youth Cup back in November.

It is early in his career and he awaits his first league start although he has represented Wales U19 side on 6 occasions so far. He is currently playing in their U18 Development side and has netted over 30 goals this season.

To stay afloat Crewe have a model of developing young talent and then selling them when the time is right, naturally some leave sooner than they would like, that is the nature of youth development, players are just as impatient as everyone else.

Crewe have offered him a 3 year contract to stay and further develop with a view to cashing in on him at a later date. Spurs are just one of a number of clubs watching the situation with interest.
