Porstmouth 2 - 0 Tottenham Hotspur: Match Analysis

By Jaymes Marsh

This game marked Ramos' 50th game in charge.

Once again, this Spurs team looked like a half-hearted express train leading off into nowhere land.

The Tottenham keeper, Gomes, pulled off 3 superb saves to keep the Londoners firmly in the first half. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do to prevent Pompey taking the lead.

On 32 minutes, a Portsmouth free-kick swung in by Little was met by the outstretched arm of Jenas in the penalty area. Mike Dean had no other option but to immediately point to the spot.

Jermain Defoe stepped up to tuck it away in the bottom right hand corner, choosing to not celebrate his goal in a mark of respect to the travelling Tottenham fans watching on behind the goal.

Pompey's centre-back pairing of Distin & Campbell proved too strong for Tottenham's only striker, Pavlyuchenko. Whilst Spurs wingers, Bentley & Gilberto, seemed anonymous, with the latter barely touching the ball.

Ramos changed things a little in the second half by brining on Lennon for the ineffective Gilberto.

Zokora made way for Giovani in the 57th minute; transforming the 4-5-1 formation into a 4-4-1-1, with Bentley playing just off Pavlyuchenko and Giovani slotting in on the right.

Once again, a heartless Tottenham allowed Portsmouth enough room to attack from the left.

A bullet shot couldn't be held by Gomes. How unfortunate it was that Tottenham's best player of the match could only parry the ball, allowing Crouch to pounce for Portsmouth's second goal on 68 minutes.

Ramos decided to take off Pavlyuchenko and replace him with Darren Bent on 73 minutes, with chants of "You don't know what you're doing" aimed directly at Ramos from the travelling fans.

I am afraid that time may be fast approaching on Juande Ramos. None of us here at THBN can see what he's trying to achieve with this squad of players. His tactics, or should I say, lack of them, are a real hindrance.

I personally feel that he should be given a further 5 games. If there is no improvement, the club need to cut ties with the man they broke every rule to get.

The buck shouldn't stop there either. Damien Comolli should follow him out of the door, with Levy wising up to the fact that a Sporting Director/ Director of Football role just doesn't work.

I don't feel that Ramos will be managing Tottenham in our next Premier League match if we are knocked out in Poland when we play the second leg of our UEFA Cup campaign against Wisla Krakow. We currently lead 2-1 on aggregate.

Oh fellow Yid's. Where do we go from here?

Spurs Line-Up: Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Bentley, O'Hara, Jenas, Zokora (Giovani, 57), Gilberto (Lennon, 45), Pavlyuchenko (Bent, 73).
