Ex-Arsenal & England striker, Ian Wright, announced on TalkSPORT yesterday evening that his step-son Shaun Wright-Phillips will not be moving to Spurs in a swap deal with Jermain Defoe.
Sun columnist, Ian McGarry, stated that Chelsea wanted Jermain Defoe and were willing to let their explosive winger, Wright-Phillips move in the opposite direction as part of a straight swap.
"I can't believe that McGarry would write such a story? Where does he get his information from? I just can't believe that this fella would make the whole thing up", commented Wright.
Ian McGarry has extremely good contacts within football and it's these contacts that have helped him rise as a highly respected top sports journalist.
I go along with Wright though. He was adamant that his step-son wouldn't be going anywhere.
What I am sure of though, is that Jermain Defoe will either leave by the close of this transfer window (closes midnight Friday 31st August 2007), or he'll be gone in the January transfer window.
It's such a shame too. Martin Jol has stated on many occasions that he thinks there's no better finisher than Defoe in the Premier League.
Why can't our management give him a run of let's say, ten games? Let him show to Jol and to us that he should be our first choice striker.
I expect Defoe to be sold to Manchester United tomorrow. If that doesn't happen, Portsmouth will be in for him if they fail to sign Nicolas Anelka from Bolton.
Either way, I feel sorry for the lad. Do you? What do you think should happen with Defoe?

No Deal
Any new signings?
Article by Jesse Johnstone
Spurs are known for late plunges into the transfer market just before the window closes, so will there be any late surprises this time round?
It's known that Martin Jol has asked for another centre back and a left winger. Curtis Davies looks to be on his way to Villa, which I find strange as he's said he would only sign for a London club as he misses the capital.
Martin Jol is a keen admirer of Blackburn's winger, Pedersen, but Mark Hughes has rebuffed all attempts by Spurs.
I hate to bring this up again, but could the lack of any new faces mean the end of Martin Jol? If a new manager is lined up to take over at the end of the season, surely he would want his own players and not his predecessors.
Watch this space for West Brom's centre back, Curtis Davies, Blackburn's left wing king, Morten Gamst Pedersen, Pompey's Matthew Taylor and the departures of Defoe, to either Manchester United, Portsmouth, Aston Villa or Chelsea, with Murphy going to either Derby, Sunderland, Birmingham or Fulham and Ghaly probably going to Middlebrough.
