It looks as though The Sun is back up to its old tricks in trying to oust England manager, Steve McClaren, from his job. The tabloid used similar tactics in trying to unsettle former England manager, Graham Taylor, by questioning everything he did and going as far as famously labelling him 'a turnip'.
Surely this latest outburst by The Sun will unsettle not only McClaren, but the players too? Steve McClaren has said on many occasions that the negative comments don't bother him. Maybe the comments in themselves do not. I can though guarantee that the response they yield from the public do bother him as he knows that his employers will be only too quick in firing him if the majority of the public is swayed.
Is it possible that certain individuals in the media would risk England losing so that McClaren would get the sack?
When the Ramosgate saga broke, I remember hearing the conspiracy theory that someone within the media wanted to desperately unsettle Tottenham Hotspur and hence released an article which in effect kicked off the stories that our board allegedly met with the now famous Spaniard.
At the time, I laughed at that theory, thinking it to be just plain pub talk. Was I wrong to think that there was no way the media is using its resources to influence the fans and players alike?
I still find it highly unlikely that something like that did actually take place as the club failed to release a statement rubbishing the articles immediately. If they had their PR in order, I may have believed the theory to be in fact, fact.
It looks as though they have started on that path with McClaren. If England do not win the games against Israel and Russia, I can assure you that as a collective, the media will in effect, sack Steve McClaren.
It's the media's responsibility to report the news. Therefore, is the onslaught McClaren will surely get from the media, if England fail to progress in the games, justified?

Paul Robinson has kept the title of England's Number 1! What do you make of McClaren's decision on sticking with him? Would you replace him if you were McClaren?

I agree with the sun on this one. The FA should never have hired him as he really has no idea what he's doing.
I'd keep Robbo.
no would keeep robbo in goal give him one more chance. Steve Mc should be given these games to see if we qualify, and if we dont then sack him.
Long live Big Martin Jol!!
McClaren should have only been appointed as a caretaker manager until the FA found the right guy.
He's just another version of Sven
the redtops "run" this country just with the right choice of headline we can have a new manager and also who will be the next prime minister....the editor of the Sun will decide Mcclarens fate not the F.A
I think the press should be getting behind the team. If we fail to qualify - then get on McLaren's back, but anything beforehand is counter-productive. Yes, I think some of the hacks are willing to risk us losing, citing the "greater long term good" of a new manager, rather than being lumbered with a nice bloke who isn't up to it...
Lots of Arsenal fans amongst those hacks too, hence why anti-Spurs stories seem to run for so long. Just look at the "Berba for sale" muck.
The only way to stop them is to refuse to buy their rags or click on their sites.
That's what I think 2:11pm.
Instead of releasing such negative comments that will surely do more harm than good, they should be giving the England squad as much encouragement as possible.
I would not manage England for all the tea in China. If I was good enough to be considered it would mean I'm good enough to get a decent club job and I would stick with that option. Our media loves creating a circus around the England manager no matter who he is. SGE couldn't even get laid without a camera filming the incident (a very sorry image).
I am Dutch and so do not follow the England team as much as many do in this country.
What I can say though is that the media use the same negative ploys with the England team as they do with Tottenham Hotspur.
R Jol
Robbo has kept his place in the side!
This is great news, isn't it?
I don't care about England Manager
But If Spurs sacked Jol.....Spurs will end up with desprados the likes of Redknapp, Padrew, Warnock, Jewel...that will satisfy the board & idiots who want Jol to be replaced.
Are you nuts?
The board don't want Jol replaced because they don't get on with him. That's got nothing to do with it.
They would like him removed because Spurs are in the relegation spot and he's spent 40 million.
It will be all the same as long as Commoli is there. Many decent managers refuse to work with directors of football. Jols tactics are poor so I think he should go, but I can't see how it works if Commoli wants to bring in a player that the manager doesn't want. He has been responsible for some good buys, but he now has a reputation of being above Jol in the eyes of the board. It doesn't work.
the bulk of 40 million does not strenghten the 1st 11 considerably this season (MAYBE in 2/3 years from now).... other than that now there is somebody that can kick with left foot. Infact that 40 million contribute to the unhappiness within the spurs strikers.
Bale...yes an improvement
Kaboul replaced King...not much upgrade.
Boateng??? Taraabt?? Rose??
Spurs bought for the future, to make profit... abut expect sucess now. Dream on!
Even if Spurs emply mourinho now...Spurs could no achived higher tha 4th, this season or next season.....maybe later
Jol tactic is poor...only when Spurs lost (or Draw)
when Spurs won games...It was not because of Jol...it is because the oppsitions were poor or players werbrilliant
How convenience!!!!!
Mclaren is a cunt. A clueless cunt with a bouffant. He's being undermined because he is shit.
Think main problem with the board taking on these pre-season trips and playing oppositions that wouldn’t make 2nd division if we’d had harder pre-season warm up the players would have been ready for actions don’t blame jol blame management above who always put money first remember what happen after 1987 season … greed it took us 10 recover from
Why is everybody jumping on the bandwagon, saying jol's tactics are poor? Every team/manager loses games through bad tactical decisions, thats football. we've spent years in the wildernss and now, when something good comes along, everybody seems intent on fucking it up. his tactics were good enough to finish fifth twice in a row and the squad has only got stronger. wheres the problem?
