Could this be Martin Jol's final game?

By Jesse Johnstone

A few media sources such as the BBC have commented on the fact that tomorrow's London derby against Arsenal could be Martin Jol's final game in charge as manager of Spurs if the club were to lose.

If we are to lose to Arsenal, the start to this campaign would have been the worst under Martin Jol since he became our manager, a fact that Levy and co are fully aware of.

A few debates have been going on within THBN these past couple of days, as we have tried to portray this site as being Pro-Jol, and have all united in our beliefs that Martin Jol is the man who can win things with Tottenham.

Out of the five main THBN contributors (Jaymes, Paul, Poshspur, Sam, and myself), two (no names mentioned) would now like a change in manager if we were to lose, whilst the other three (myself included) are fully behind Martin Jol, no matter what the result tomorrow.

Where do you stand on the Jol debate? If we lose to Arsenal tomorrow, would you feel comfortable if Mr. Levy sacked Martin Jol? Would you want Jol to stay on if we lost the derby? Would you want Jol replaced no matter what the result?

Do you think the Premier League officials were stupid in allowing West Ham to get away with the Tevez affair? View the article ::

Tottenham to romp home 4-1, wait and see.......
More importantly, what's happened to the Prince(Boateng).
His name hasn't been mentioned by Jol and he is not in the squad...does anyone know????

He's a Comolli signing and so probably won't get a game till Jol get's sacked.

The same thing happened with Santini. He never played Carrick as it was Arnesen's signing. Jol came in and played him and he became a vital part of Spurs.

Watch Boateng become a Spurs sensation once Jol get's sacked!!

I really do think that we'll win. I know that the form guide doesn't have us looking like we can win, but I really think that the players will do the business for Jol.

It's got a draw written all over it. Anyone not seeing that needs to go down to the local opticians.

What a bullshit article! and you call yaself fans...you should be building this game up as the kickstart win to the season not jols final game. honestly i feel embarrassed to support the same team as you morons. As for boateng...Do you really want to see him thrown into the deep end in a side in poor form or nurtured into the premier league in a team in good form! lesson of the day think before typing!!!

Hopefully the Jol will be gone regardless of the result tomorrow. Now I really dont like Arsenal but if winning against them will mean that Tottenham Hotspur will continue to be managed by such an incompetent team (Esp. Houghton.. he SUCKS!) then i`d rather not have it. Sorry.

That "incompetent team" is managed by a man who has managed 2 top 5 finishes.

Are you sure about "incompetent"?

We should expect, if not DEMAND, to win tomorrow but when that is achieved that is not the end of the Jol go/stay debate since we should expect to be challenging for the No. 1 spot not accepting 4th or 5th as success. So it will depend not just on tomorrow's result but the next 5 or 6 after that. Win them all and Jol is beginning to show he can do it. Lose them, or most of them, and it should be good-bye. Of course, if he loses tomorrow, then ther is no need to wait.

2.59 you are another moron who could learn from my lesson of the day or you could just go support arsenal because you are as intelligent as one of there fans judging by the incoherent drivvle you just posted!!

I like Jol but i don't particlarly rate him is a manager. We will beat the scum bastards tomorrow but IF we lose at least we can then get a decent manager!

Tough call.
BMJ has took us forward leaps and bounds, but at the same time, had an awful lot of cash to do so.
No other man in charge has had that sort of war chest at their disposal, so realistically progress was expected. After 5th two seasons in a row, the board have spent further and rightly expect a return on ther investment.

Don't get me wrong, I am a big BMJ fan - but given a choice of keeping with 5th place, or battling it out with the top 4... I know what I go with.

Yes, it is early in the season, but with other sides also heavilly investing, we need to continue our progress.

The reason why unfortunately I do not see Mr Jol progressing us further is not so much off the pitch, but, look at the games where we have made negative changes - obviously Chelsea last season is the big one that sticks out. Understood - we had another big game round the corner. BUT these players are getting paid BIG BIG bucks, they are finely tuned athletes, and I do not feel it was necessary to remove our two most damaging players and then allow them back in the game.

Answer me this - how often has BMJ turned a game around for the good?

I recall once - against the Hammers.

The next question I would ask is what we might have acieved over the last two seasons if we did have a manager with a greater tacticle ability?

Anyway - I think I have gone way off the mark here with my ramblings. Should this be BMJ's last game in charge?

I say no - regardless of result. Purely because the timing would be bad, it would cause unrest in the changing room and on the terraces. I think the big guy needs to be given until January, if not the end of the season. For the commitment he has gave us, he deserves that loyalty and respect.

Come January, that should be time to assess things. We are a little unfortunate lately - we deserve to beat manure, and we are playing some good attacking football.

I'm sure after the game tomorrow we are likely to see a lot of happy Yids!

I think and hope we will win...but whatever the result, anyone who critises Jol is a twat, he's given us our 2 best ever premierleague finishes...2 seasons ago if most of the team hadn't got food poisoning on the last day, we would've probably beaten West Ham and finished ahead of the scum, in 4th place!! Last season we had a slow start, loads of new players, and we finished 5th, 1 semi-final, which I think the players and not Jol threw away, qtr final of the FA cup,and qtr final of the UEFA Cup, which I still believe we would've won if Sevilla hadn't got the ridiculous penalty decision against us!!

So all in all not too bad!!

Ok I am disappointed with this season's start, but it's early days and we have been missing most of the defence so far!

Remember Ferguson was at UTD for 5 years before he won anything...Jol has done better than him if you compare their first 2 seasons! It takes time to build a team that successful!!

Give Jol a chance..get behind the club and not the f**king media!!

3-1 Spurs...COYS!!

Doesn't matter what's written on it or how extensively. On the day, it only matters what happens on the pitch.

The people who keep talkin about other tottenham fans not being sure about jol are TWATS then there jus bein nieve.. Yes he has brought us two top 5 finishes the first we shud have got fourth but he threw it away by being to cautious during the final running and last seasons we scrapd it on the last day!! People are taking about jol leaving because they dont think he has what it takes to get us to where we want and need to be.. those supporters who are so firmly behind jol should properly analyise y they are actuali behind him.. yes two top 5 finishes but the3re past now we want to b higher n i dont think he can take us there!! 2-1 tomoro COYS

This game is the equivalent of Jol

Never posted on any site ever before. Season ticket holder, Park Lane.

The key to any side (football, rugby, american football, you name it) is a period of stabilisation to allow development. This is a function of many things, but most importantly, the manager, the money and the time frame. We have done very well over the last two seasons: magnificently relative to any of the last twenty bloody seasons. We are some way along that process.

There is for the first time, in a very long time, a sense of purpose and a style to MY team. This makes them the sort of side that I started to support, apparently according to my father (I honestly can’t remember) when Jimmy Greaves was signed. Over the whole time I've supported them (40+ years) this is the most excited I've been at the start of a season.

Disappointed though I've been about the reality of the start in result terms, they've still looked, in most games, a very good football side to me. (OK, except Everton!!!)

We are, as Spurs fans, it has always seemed to me, absolutely lovers of the beautiful game. It’s why we despise the chapmanesque qualities of the wanderers. Whatever happens tomorrow, this is already a good side and, possibly, a great side in the making.

Let’s ignore the complete **** we’ve been seeing in the press and with the help of our support help give our club what they deserve to morrow.

If he once again demonstrates that he has not learned from his mistakes and throws away points by taking off attacking players and trying to defend even though everyone knows our defence is crap then he will go

This article is rubbish.

I know how to tickle a few hits and have no shame in doing so. But adding to the p*ss poor media that suggest by snide rumour and gossipy trash that BMJ ought be binned after a handful of games is a load of c*ck & you boys need to sharpen your pencils.

This web/blog business ain't easy.

Everyone's a critic. But for the love of God, leave the mindless negativity to the morons at The Mirror and The Mail.

Cobblers like this isn't a legitimate catalyst for debate - it's devisive and worse yet ...LAZY.

We need a world class coach but not BMJ. He has contribute his share and I thank him for what he has done. Is Cruel But life still move on. We need world class coach to progress to next level

Jol is a top bloke, but his tactical decisions suggest he may only be a 'best of the rest' manager. Even if we win tomorrow it will be due to the players and their passion and drive, not because of Jol! If we win, and I believe we will, I think a change is necessary anyway. This huge debate is killing morale and a fresh face with more experience and new ideas will help move our passionate driven players forward. Well done to Jol for two top 5 finishes, but there is a reason it was only top 5!

all those slating BMJ were doing the same at the start of last season and by the end you were creaming over him! give the bloke till the end of the season if he cant take us to the next level then hire a top class proven manager (lippi)
