What do you think of Jenas?

By Sam Jenkins

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Jermaine Jenas, has signed a new 5-year contract that will keep him at Spurs until 2012 or maybe even beyond that.

JJ has told the media today that he would like to stay at Spurs until the end of his career. Seeing as he's only 24, that could be for another 10 years.

I personally think that Jermaine has so much more to offer, but for reasons best known to himself, doesn't exert himself enough. He has been known to pull off disappearing acts whilst on the field. Then again, he has also been known to prove us all wrong and play like a world-class individual.

I have said for a long time that Spurs need a central midfielder that will take the team by the scruff of the neck and push them forward; a real character that will drive the entire team forward. Unfortunately, players like that are far and few between.

Do I believe that Jenas will be at the club to see out his new 5-year contract? In short, no. Do I believe that Jenas can become a Spurs legend? Yes I do, but I don't think that he's got the character that would enable him to excel in a Spurs shirt.

What do you make of him?

I was pleased for the guy. I sit in the Shelf, and the guys behind us are continually slagging him off, even while he's taking part in the warm-up!

I just hope everyone would get off his back.

It's a good thing if our star players are signing new contracts with us. It proves that we are moving forward.

What a pile of shit! How much is that beggar on then eh? He's probably signed a £30 grand a week contract, and for what?

He's a Jol favorite. No matter how badly he plays, he'll be in the side, and he knows it too.

Waste of space!

Why are the club giving our worst central midfielder a new contract???

Anonymous said...

He hasn't got the character to perform at the highest level. If he was truly so good, why haven't any of the famous top-four come in for him?

Enough said

Anonymous said...

He's signed a £24,000 per week contract.

Huddlestone should be first choice, with Zokora given a proper run in the side in the position that JJ is in.

You'll see that Zokora is a far better player playing further forward

No other sides have been in for him, yet we are offering him a new contract.

Just about sums up our board.

What do they see in him?

just shut up you fickle ars*hol*s cos I bet you scream your F****** hearts out every time he scores a goal....FACT HE IS OUR TOP SCORING MIDFIELDER OF THE PAST 2 SEASONS....isn't that enough for you fools to get off his back?!?!

Now we really are rubber ducked. He has a great engine but he cannot pass, he cannot tackle and he is uncomfortable in possession. As a midfield player they are three pretty serious shortcomings. The occasional goaline clearance and in off the post goal do not nearly make up for what he lacks. He is not a name to strike fear in the opposition when they see our team sheet.

It is precisely this type of half baked decision that calls both the manager and the Board into question.

Tottenham fans are so fickle! when he had Carrick behind us everyone was saying how great they were and recently he has had Huddleston behind him and yes he's played well again!
I am a Spurs fan myself and wish fans would get off his back

Anonymous said...

Of course we cheer when he scores a goal you plank!

He's scoring it for TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC and not for jermaine jenas!!

That's not being fickle. If we can buy a commanding central midfielder, we will achieve so much more.

He does have quality, but no character. I know it's what the author of this site said, but it's what I've thought since his days at Newcastle.

He would be a great player at the likes of Derby, WBA, Birmingham, etc, but not Spurs

Anonymous said...

he has no guts and no passion. has he ever broken into a sweat? he plays at training match tempo adn goes awol EVERY game, has NEVER been MoTD. we will not break into the top 4 with this lightweight in our side, bring on the Prince. Giving him a new contract is madness.
today he's laughing all the way to his Aston Martin.

Fair play he scores a few important goals, but he seems to run around aimlessly at other times. He just doesn't seem to want it enough and its only on a rare occasion that I can say I was pleased with his performance.

Ask yourself, would you rather not have him, or get 15 extra goals every year but play with what seems like ten men..........

Lets just hope he ups his game and proves us wrong. Or Huddlestone forces him out.

Great goal against Derby though

He's our best midfielder, get off his back. Who said Zokora's better?
hahahahahahahahahahaha what a joke.

I think it's typical of Spurs fans in general that they treat Jenas with such disrespect. He's scored some ridiculously vital goals for us, has had assists in loads more, and covers more grass per game than the rest of the midfield put together. I'm a season ticket holder and sometimes I want to tear my hair out at the mindless comments thrown his way. Well done Jermaine, from one fan in the Park Lane.

This only goes to prove that despite being a "good bloke", Jol hasn't got a clue! JJ is average at best and if Jol thinks he's the answer to our problems then god help us all!

Anonymous said...

Oi.... Harrison Enfield.... or can I call you Harry Enfield.... Stick to comedy, you know fuck all about football.

Anonymous said...

I wish the idiots who constantly boo JJ during matches would get off his back and give him some encouragement, he scored a lot of important goals for us last season, and booing him is obviously not the way to get the best out of him. He is a quality player and I am glad that he's signed a new contract.

Forget Jenas waste of space ................................................................
THBN and poshspur what going on with this Defoe SWP swap talk!

I am certainly not against SWP signing and think it would it a good idea i will loss or confidence in Jol as much as i have in board if Defoe is sold.

In Jol's own words "he is the best finisher in the premier league"

I reckon he going going now as Jol is in a strong postion to do what he wants after last week

Jenas = Penis

Totally agree with the guy from Park Lane Jenas covers an awful lot of grounf, so to the guy who says does he even break into a sweat take special attention to Jenas in the next game and you will see how much ground he covers I bet it will be more than you think

Anonymous said...

Although Jenas has not set The Lane on fire, he has more ability and more potential than all our other midfielders.

05/06 - 7 Goals
06/07 - 8 Goals

Statswise, better than any other Spurs midfielder by a mile and only since his arrival, he's behind only Lampard, Gerrard & Ronaldo in the Premiership........and THAT'S A FACT !!

Whether you like him or not, he contributes more than the rest and while Jol is in charge, he's here to stay.

If i was Jenas i'd take it as a compliment (considering his stats) as everyone clearly has very high expectations of him, so bascially he all secretly rate him

What does Zokora do?, Taino ?, Huddlestone?, Malbranque?, Lennon?!!!! Certainly not as much as Jenas, that's for sure.

In fact what do Zokora & Tainio ACTUALLY DO?

You obviously don't watch many games then pal, Zokora couldn't hit a cows arse with a Banjo

But a 9.5 for diving

With half of you screaming absolute garbage at him Jenas still manages to run 13 kilometers per game ( more than most of you have run in your lives I wouldn't mind betting ). Berbatove gets one bollocking and his world turns upside down ( evidenced by his facial expressions and body language in the 1st half against Man U ). Jenas isn't the greatest we have had and we have had a few over the years but he is one of the most committed. Anyone that has the verve, energy, skill and determinatrion to score that 93rd min goal against the scum will always have my respect.

Anonymous said...

a flacid cock is wot he is, with a slight erection very occasionally. A wasted position considering we require him to enlarge his balls in order to deserve his position. His balls will always be that size.
Thanks.

Anonymous said...

jenas is just another jason dozzell, average at best

Anonymous said...

he could score 8 own goals and give away 8 penaltys in a game and he'd still be first on the team sheet, why oh why does JOL worship him so much.
if jenas gets injured (fingers crossed) then we'll move forward

Anonymous said...

he cant tackle, he is lightweight, he can only pass sideways or backwards. when he tries to pass forward he gives the ball away. he doesnt dribble..In fact, i am not sure what he can do? i see the fact that he "covers a lot of ground" doesnt quite cut it. My cat covers a lot of ground but doesnt mean he should get £1.5m a year. I went to the Everton at home game and i have to say that he was awful at best. I think Zokora is miles better. The only reason i can think that Jenas makes the squad (and the England squad!) is that he must be a model professional in training, but thats a guess.

Anonymous said...

Clealy everyone banging on the door of "get Jenas out", fail to remember what a sought after player he was at Newcastle. The arsenal manager thought he was a natural replacement for Veira. If he was in a Arsenal shirt do you think he would be a better player!!. My thoughts are that management have penned a new contract and not the manager. The management like myself don't agree that Jol is getting the best out of the players. The right manager and players like Jenas will shine at the lane.

its not hard to be our highest scorinmg midfielder when your comp is ghaly, tainio, zoks etc ,all def mids.

FACT jenas is shit, and if running around a lot these days makes a good footballer then spurs should sign my fucking dog,as she runs a lot BUT has a better 1st touch than JJ.oh yeah, the dogs called poshspur, shes a poodle .always yapping and full of shit.

Your cat my dog.they can anchor our mid for the next 10 years

Jenas is not good enough to play in the centre of midfield. He played much better when he was played on the right for a few games last season. On the right he has less defending to do and cannot leave the gaping holes that tend to appear due to his woeful defensive positioning. At least he is loyal and deserves another chance just for this reason alone. I am not a fan of his but lets all get off his back and just see what happens...
COYS!!!

Anonymous said...

fuck me.

Again,DOes loyalty mean yoru worth 30k a week !!!!!!!!!!

if thats the only reason you think he should stay?? what about things like er giving a fuck,in all the games, not just against the big clubs.

Anonymous said...

Who the fuck is really worth 25K a week anyway??

Most people don't get that in a year...

Loyalty in modern day football is not a common virtue,

Despite this, yes he is pretty shit...

WHO THE FUCK GIVES ANY OF TWATS THE RIGHT TO CALL ANYONE FICKLE WHO DOES NOT RATE JENAS. JUST BECAUSE HE SCORES THE ODD GOAL DOES NOT MEAN HE CONTRRIBUTES ANYTHING TO THE MIDFEILD ANYONE WHO HAS WATCHED A TOTTENHAM GAME AND KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL KNOWS HE JUST SITS DEEP MOST OF THE GAME, TAKES HOURS TO MAKE ONE PASS, INVITES PRSSURE FROM OPPOSTION DOES NOT HELP OUT THE DEFENCE WHICH OFTEN LEAD TO GOALS GOING IN AND CERTAINLY WHY WE DO NOT DOMINATE GAMES

SO YOU OF YOU WANKERS SHOULD GET A CLUE AND FIND SOME OTHER BUMCHUM JENAS DID SAY HE WANST GAY MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO AND HANG AROUND WITH CASHLY COLE

Anonymous said...

what a twat for saying that I am fickle because I cheer a goal for tottenham but think Jenas is shite. If anyone thinks that he is anything other than shite you are either deluded or just completely ignorant about football. When he plays, we are worse than when someone else (anyone else) plays and I sit in the Park Lane and I'll boo the c*unt whenever I want because he brings the name of the mighty yids down with his substandard championship level play. He can slow any move down and hold onto the ball just long enough to lose it or for the opposition to get back. It is a sad day when this happens and confirms what I am so sorry to admit, that Jol has not got the clue.

Anonymous said...

new contract should give him new glasses and boots might find on of our players with a pass

Anonymous said...

He clearly has ability but no ability to learn. He takes the fans jeers the wrong way, just thinking we don't know what we're talking about. What crowd ever boos someone giving 100%? If he just learned and showed signs of progress he would quickly win the fans over.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 6.49 AND 7.19.

Has potential but just a lazy piece of shit.

Spends far too much time smoking cigars whilst on holiday in Marbella and likes to double dip his balls in Ashley Cole's mouth.

We will never dominate games with such a pussy in midfield. Scoring 8 or 9 goals doesn't hide the fact he's shit and doesn't contribute anything else. Someone else would probably score the same amount but also contribute assists and to the defence.

Jenas = Penus (His final product is jizz/wank)

He is a poor mans stefan freund,at least freund tried, this twat is in it for da pose !

i think thbn like "bitty"

Jenas is a good player for us. He runs himself into the ground for Spurs and on his day he is top quality. If all our fans gave him a fair deal he might produce top quality more often.

We need good players like Jenas who display some loyalty, rather than sulking stars who think they are too good for our team.

i cannot understand spurs fans that jeer Jenas or any other of our own players. if you want to boo our players f*** off to the scum.

Anonymous said...

Hey Park Lane and 5.28 blogger, Jenas i agre duz cover a hell of a lot of ground, however thats simply because his first touch is poor. Get reel.

Anonymous said...

Not good enough. Gives the ball away to often in dangerious areas. would much rather see huddlestone and Zokora in midfield.

Anonymous said...

THE BOARD ARE RIGHT, WE NEED TO SACK JOL. ffs HE PICKS THE TEAM BY FAVOURTISM, JJ, ROBINSON, ZOKORA, THEY ARE ALL SHIT, SO IS JOL FOR PICKING THE USELESS BUNCH OF CUNTS

Anonymous said...

I know what I'm talking about and Jenas is w"nk

Anonymous said...

your just all a bunch of fickle pricks....you make me sick to be a Spurs Fan!!!

I'll be Spurs for life no matter who is in charge, who plays and who fucking owns us and I will never boo a fucking player in a lillywhite shirt, you should be ashamed of yourselves and as for the anti Jol cocksuckers, fuck off back to caves you call homes and stay there.

Sir Alex took him 4 years, 1 game from the sack, he made mistakes, still does sometimes but he got it right in the end, were 2 and a half years in and you idiots wanna bring someone else in....name me the last manager outside the top 4 to get two top 5 finishes back to back and before you start screamin that I'm happy with 5th, NO I'M FUCKING NOT.....but I truly believe the sky is the limit with set up as it is now at Spurs, apart from the last few weeks where weve made ourselve a laughing stock we were begining to get that respect that I remember we had as a club back in the 80's, because for once from the board to the manager everyone was pullin in the right direction and I hope they sort themselves out, Jol proves them wrong this year by shocking all you cnuts and shuttin you the fuck up!!!

listening to half the mugs on here , same old crap with spurs fans needing a scape goat! The same ones that prob in the past stood there singing songs for stefan fruend(spl)who was a truely crap player(but tried! wtf) or zakora song now and although he is well liked is pretty crap as yet.jj is a good player with the right partner in the centre simple as that, its the same with people like gerrard and lampard they are not good partners for each other and both play crap for england. jenas has got some quality goals for us and does, i think, genuinly love spurs and fairplay to him not being put off by some of the so called fans

Anonymous said...

I was away at everton last year and jj was class that night and when he came back from injury last season we sorted ourselves out and he was quite influential in are good run which saw us regain 5th at the end of the season. Cant wait til the schools go back and won't have to read so much drivel, if some of the morons got off his back and actually gave him a song i think we would see an even better jj, he's spurs through and through unlike the moaning ,whinging, believe your own hype , no one is as good as me , i will just use your club Berbatov

Anonymous said...

I think it is fair to say that the majority of his critics do not get to the lane too often. The sheer amount of ground he covers in 90 minutes cannot really be appreciated on TV. He may not set the world on fire every game, but his overall work rate is second to none and his goal ratio is better than most.

Anonymous said...

janus is one of the few players too actually give a shit about you spuds yet you all slate him ,when we played you off the pitch at the emmirates last season the 3.0 one he came on and was the only one who seemed humiliated and tried! can see why decent players don't join your crap team, when you slag off your good players , typical spurs

dont slag people off for their opinion said...

Why do some people feel they have a right to slag off anyone who doesn't rate JJ?

The guy just is not a class player. Huddleston brings out the best in players and covers for JJ's many mistakes, but with anyone else JJ looks very average.

Whoever mentioned that Wenger quote about Viera made me laugh. Viera dominated games whereas JJ is a luxury player without the class to be worth the luxury of playing.

tirez said...

Still needs some nurturing before he becomes the player he has the potential to be, but he certainly looked a lot better against Derby and he seems to be finally able to deliver the goods (in terms of tackling, good passing range) in addition to putting in a high workrate.

Anonymous said...

the whole team looked good against derby, thats cos derby gave us half a fucking field to operate in,its when we play prem standard teams that he lacks skill, and if a player at 24 hasnt resched his full potential then i fear thats that.
