Dutch international playmaker, Rafael van der Vaart, was withdrawn from the Hamburg squad for last nights UEFA Cup clash with Honved, increasing speculation that he will be leaving the club for either La Liga or the Premier League.
Hamburg have stated to the press that van der Vaart has a niggling back problem which is keeping him out of the side. Other sources have claimed that he has been omitted from the squad so as not to harm his chances of a move away from the Bundesliga.
The Guardian stated that Rafael van der Vaart was talked about in the meeting between Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, and head coach, Martin Jol.
Valencia have declared their interest in the player as have Real Madrid. It's to be seen if Spurs can match the £12 million price tag that been placed on the attacking midfielder.

He's a great player, but is he what we need at the moment? And £12 million?
Anil
To be fair mate, it's not your money. If the club believe that he's the kind of player that can really help out in our midfield, then we should defenitly go for it.
If it means replacing Jenas! Go for it. He's superb!! Im not sure if he's two footed though, although someone here in the office has said that he is.
He can even play as a striker.
The guys got weight issues and is so stroppy. If he doesn't get his own way, he goes into a strop and doesn't even train properly.
Most Dutch players are the same. They seem to think that they're god's gift or something.
I wouldn't like any dutch players in the team.
Paul COYS!!
Weight issues?? Now we've got rid of Mido, he'll have all the pies to himself :)
Hahahahaha
Who told you he's fat? Don't tell me...it was Guti and his misses in the back of your mates black cab
If this is true and we really are after VDV, then it begs the question;
Do the board or Spurs management realise that we need a left sided midfielder/winger
Even at 10 millio, that money can be used on someone like Taylor and another player.
Why on earth are we trying to sign players that we don't need?
We've alredy got Taraabt at the club and he was called the best French attacking midfield prospect.
Just concentrate on the left side of midfield!!!
The move wont happen. You lot are mugs for beleiving this stupoid site.

VDV is a left sided winger you dick.
Poshspur - Grow up !
anyone else noticed that this site is only "active" if you can call it that, during the summer holidays !!!!!!!
I mean come on, "stop calling names" ha ha ha - what comedy!!!!
I've seen him play regularly and I can assure you that he's not a left winger
Van der Mayde is the on with weight issues. The big lump at Everton. Va der vaart is a left winger
Whenever I've seen van der Vaart play, he's played in behind the front two in an attacking midfield role.
If by definition he is a left winger; then I apologise.
VDV is NOT a left winger -he has played there from time to time but he generally plays behind the front two - ala Sneijder.
That's what I thought too 10:33

Sorry, you think? 10 mins ago you KNEW
go and move your transformers off the floor, the dog has one stuck in its paw
He is left footed can play on the wing or attacking midfield! Could be the player to link the midfeild with the strikers! He can also give us some width! I'd say lets try & sign him! Coys!
He's not worth 12 million
We should bring Matty Taylor in instead of the party loving VDV.
Btw, he's not a left winger
Shane
Attacking midfielder Left/Center
He is a bargin at 12 million, hes like Frank lampard

what are you his chef ????
yeah and re dutch players being iffy ? your having a laugh right ? bergkamp didnt do to bad, overmars,or davids in his 1st season,so id re-think what yoru saying, doesnt matter where they come from it what they bring to the team.
I think you're all forgetting something... Van Der Vaart's wife is a serious hottie. We could do with brightening up White Hart Lane at the mo.
Is she the best WAG around? I challenge you to find better...hubba hubba!!

Is he a left winger
no
Makes me sick all you people going on about what the mighty Spurs should or shouldnt do. Ffs VDV is a massive step up from Jenas, pacey an eye for a pass scores with both feet & scares defences. Oh yea Jenas does that to right? no he doesnt. You all seem to forget that the issue of a lefty will be solved once bale is injury free coz i & many others think he was bought as LW NOT LB. once all players are injury free we will have a team to compete added into the mix a player of VDV quality that would be a big piece of the puzzle solved.... COYS
He is a left footed attacking centre midfielder who plays wide from time to time. Quality player, and definately worth 12 mil! We should go for it!
In will vdv, taylor and Davies in the next week got it from horses mouth.Remember where you saw it first!
Spurs will sell gardner, rocha lee, tiano and murphy to help pay for vdv, taylor and davies. They will all sign in the next week!
erm, Tainio and Rocha ent goin nowhere.
Harry I can give you the low down. I was watching DSF last night prior to HSV's UEFA Cup match they broadcast - I live in Spain but get some German channels at home... and they broadcast an interview with Van Der Vaart himself (he was held out of the match). I believe the interview was taken from Radio Nou (Valencia radio channel) and Van Der Vaart stated very clearly - he was speaking English in the interview - that he strongly wished to move to Valencia... so look elsewhere.
It was clear. There was absolutely no mention of Tottenham in the interview, or in the featurette which was discussing where Van Der Vaart could be headed.
File Under: CATEGORICALLY NO CHANCE OF BECOMING A SPUR.
P.S. Not a left winger. Attacking midfielder(central), creative. No weight issues IMO. Every time I've seen him play he's looked very fit.
anil - yes
what do we need?
a creative attacking playmaker who is flexible enough to play on the left side of midfield until we PROPERLY sort it out.
i believe the only reason we haven't signed an established accomplished left winger is because there ain't none out there for sale..
missed out on petrov (does anyone know why exactly? surely berbs would be an attraction?); duff, downing and gamst just not and never were gonna happen..
taylor sounds good, young-ish, english and only getting better but we need european experience - think about the influence that davids had, and imagine if he was still in favour for the UEFA campaign?
as much as is support spurs' effforts to maintain an english backbone and develop young talent, sometimes you just need a old head, and you can't pick them up easy.
we need another davids! a nedved, a figo, even a vieri (ok, maybe not him but you know what i mean). f**k it, bring back teddy!
but seriously, guti and taylor, best of both worlds.
COYS!
yea bring back teddy!
hes gold!
