Manchester United 1 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

Article by Jaymes Marsh

I know that many of you are wondering why I have given a false final scoreline to yesterdays result. I have to hold my hands up at this time and state that the fact that Tottenham Hotspur lost to Manchester United doesn't completely relate to the above scoreline.

After a week of media and boardroom shuffles, Martin Jol's men came out against United with all guns blazing. The players were committed to the cause; so committed in fact, that neutrals watching the game would have been hard pushed to comment on which team was playing at home.

Such spirit and guile was portrayed in devastating fashion. Spurs were so unlucky in the match, nearly scoring but for Ferdinand's goal-line clearance. We also saw Wes Brown showing his boss that he's an extremely capable shot-stopper.

If any team was going to win this match, it would be a strike of magnificence. Unfortunately for us Spurs fans, that's exactly what happened. Our summer target, Nani, hit a screamer from around 30 yards. The result; Manchester United 1-0 Spurs.

So why did I say 1-1? Manchester United may well have won yesterday's game, but Spurs also scored an absolute cracker, by agreeing that Dimitar Berbatov would remain at Spurs this season.

This is great news as so many are claiming that a deal to take him to Manchester United had already been done and dusted. Any qualms about a bust-up between Jol and Dimitar have been firmly put to bed.

Dimitar will be plying his trade in our colours, and with any luck, blast us into a top-four position, enabling our mighty manager to keep his job.

We were so unlucky against united. No ref ever gives penalties against united at old trafford.

How was that not a blatant pen???

I think that Robbo would have saved Nani's shot if it hadn't deflected of Tevez's back. It's a shame as we played really well.

Bale played superb yesterday. What a place to make your debut! Finally, we've got a left footed midfielder!

That wasn't a penalty!!

It hit his chest and shoulder. Get your facts right Spuds

I would still prefer Bale at left back and Jimmy Tarbuck on the left.

Bale looks like a class act and got my man-of-the-match award

I have watched the video of the so called penalty frame by frame, and believe me, it was not a penalty. It clearly hit Brown's chest/side area. So at the end of the day, United won, Spurs lost, end of story.

Robie Keane was sent off againts Bolton and Bolton were awarded a penalty kick when the ball clearly strucked his chest from a close range header. Much less obvious than waht happend to Brown.

Penalties was awarded when the ball strucked Dawson's arm from a close range drive, but a similar but more blatant handball by Terry was unpunished...all of these were at WHL...

If you did'nt called these as bribery...than no such a word exists in disctionary

How come nobody talks about the situation before Ferdinand hacked the ball of the line? That was the clearest penalty/red card-situation I ever saw. Just because Berbatov was able to get up and tried to persue the ball afterwards, doesn't mean that it wasn't a foul. When the ball didn't go in and i.e. the advantage was gone, the ref should have given the penalty and sent Vidic off. Ha was nowhere near the ball, no matter if he fell over Berb of threw himself over him intentionally. Shocking! The Brown incident right afterwards was less clear in my opinion, and would never be given at Old Trafford. I wonder how many points United have gained over the years because of gutless refs.

You're right, that was a definite penalty and a possible sending off offence, but when you're at old trafford, things like that just never go your way.

The first one was never a penalty, both vidic and berbatov are watching the ball, berbatov is behind vidic and theres a coming together through no fault of either player, similar to last week for finnan at anfield when everyone said what a poor decision it was! now people want a penalty - refs cant win!
