Let's Move On

Article by Sam Jenkins

The last 7 days of 100% Tottenham Hotspur media coverage has given the impression that our beloved manager, Martin Jol is down and out, and the chairman of our board has no idea what his minions are up to.

After this week of turmoil, I believe that we should forget everything that has apparently happened and move on. I know that this may sound like a pretty stupid thing to say, but it isn't. Let me explain. If we stop judging what is going on behind the scenes and concentrate on supporting the club, our support will be amplified onto the pitch. Let's put all that has happened behind us and move on. Were you or I in the Alfonso XIII hotel? Do we care? No. Why? Because Martin Jol is our manager, and not that lying snake Ramos. If anything, he's milking the story so as to get a better contract out of Seville. Firstly denying that he met anyone from Spurs, then stating that he was offered a bumper contract by the people he never met. He sounds like a bloody politician. Next he'll tell us that a plane flew into the Pentagon.

Our chairman, Daniel Levy, made a statement yesterday (Daniel Levy's statement) that many tabloids are claiming to be a "vote of confidence".

It's anything but that. If you are to read the comments he made carefully, you can see that he is fully behind Martin Jol, and not making sneer comments with a view to replacing him in the very near future. We've also been spoon fed that Levy is furious at the comments Robbo made. I find it hard to believe that Levy would make such a comment to the press. Maybe he made his thoughts clear to our captain, Ledley King, and asked him to pass the message onto the players that the board are fully behind the manager.

Where can we go from here? We can either linger on what the media has been relaying to us or we can set that aside and support Tottenham Hotspur.

You decide how you want to move on from this point. I personally will be at Old Trafford on Sunday and will be supporting my team, Spurs.

You made some good points, but you also made a lot of unwise ones to.

Firstly, Spurs officials DID meet with Juande Ramos and secondly, the statement released by Levy IS as you might say, a dreaded vote of confidence.

Didn't Levy state a few days ago that this is the most amount of money spent and now Spurs have the best squad ever??? I am sure he also said that he expects the team to push on further.

The comments he made a few days ago didn't sound as though he was behind Jol.

Now that Ramos turned them down, he's fully behind his manager, isn't he?

What a twit! Cambridge degree my arse!!!

I agree with you 10:42.

Why didn't Levy release a statment on Saturday (before Derby game), claiming that the club hadn't met with Ramos.

Didn't he understand that there would be a media frenzy surrounding all of this?

Maybe the club need to hire a PR guy/girl and sort themselves out. It's clear they have no idea what they are doing.

I agree with this Paul Mortimer. Let's just put it all behind us and support Spurs

How can we forget what the club are doing? We're not bloody robots that have a switch that we can flick on/off at our pleasure.

Get your facts straight before commenting and writing an article.

The club did meet with Ramos and offer him a huge contract. They were going to sack Jol. They also met with other managers.

The only reason that they are releasing this bullshit to us now, is because no other manager wanted to come to us.

How can we forget what they've done? They've completely unsettled the side. God only knows what our players think and feel right now.

I wonder what Berbatov is thinking..."When will Spurs let me move to Man U?"

I am so frustrated withe spurs right now. YES we started badly and YES we still need to strengthen in some areas of the team but instead of concentrating on that the board have made us a laughing stock.
Does anyone know what is going on with the taylor situation. I read somewhere that the board have said no to him. Surely this can't be true ???.
Are we actually trying to buy anyone else or is the club pre occupied with this Jol/ramos mess.
Someone please give me hope because from where I am sitting the team is still very unbalanced and I can't see us competing, even Everton now are starting to look a better balanced side than us

This week is a perfect example of how all the dregs of journalism end up as sports writers. They all just repeat what every one else is saying and stick 'Exclusive' in the headline. Paraphrasing what people have said to change the meaning of what they say seems to be the favourite trick. Next week it will be all about another load of tosh they have made up to fill up the back pages.

You're right, Everton are poised to overtake us at the moment. The signings of Yakubu, and Fernandes add to Cahill, Arteta etc and we are totally lacking balance and a creative midfielder in the mould of Arteta. Surely Taylor is better than Murphy / Ghaly and we still bought them!?!?

We need a left sided midfielder. Maybe the club should fire Comolli?

Im even thinking Kieran Richardson would have done a job!!

I agree Matt like I said Everton have done things the right way, looked at waht they already had and upgraded in areas they were lacking.

If spurs end up with no left winger after the window shuts, then I think Comoli, Levy and Jol need a boot up the backside because everyone knows we have needed a left winger for well over 3 seasons and we still don't have one

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

From Levy's point of view, he has a manager who is ok but not brilliant, who has said he would like to manage the Dutch national team which job will be available at the end of the season and for which Jol appears to be the leading candidate, and Jol knows that this is the season he has to deliver or he coud be pushed out.

So does Levy sit on his hands until we see how things go at the end of the season, or does he actively look for possible successors to avoid a panic situation in May next year?

I think Levy is right to sound out the possibilities now, in case we need a new manager,. either by Jol leaving or needing to be replaced. However, the idea was right, but the execution very poor which maybe due more to the abilities of other less responsible Board members than Levy's management.

If the details of the Ramos affair had stayed behind closed doors, Jol leads us to another winless season with the accompanying dire performances which are his current trademark, and then Levy unveils Ramos ready to take over in May, most people, except for the blind Jol is God brigade would have said what a great Chairman...as it is he has been made to appear stupid. But for my money he was doing what is right for the Club.

sell defoe for 15 mil to villa and get ben arfa and fred from lyon, arfa can play left wing or as a striker. fast, skillful, can pick out the right pass. fred is like berby mark II.

happy dayz!!

The Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas wants £15 million for Arfa and won't sell Fred for less that £20 million.

The guy is a bit of a prat in my book.

What makes you think they would want to come to us?? We don't pay top wages and we are not in the CL you do the maffs..! As Spurs fans I sometimes think we could do ourselves a favour and have a quick reality check sometimes, we have progressed very well over the last couple of years, but have now made the big investment but oon players who are not proven - yet but I back Jol to get it right, but lets not hang him if we fail to break into the top 4 as as mentioned above 3 or 4 other teams have strengthened there first team on the pitch, I dont bleive our first 11 will be any differnet from the end of last season when fit..
