Left sided player linked

Article by Sam Jenkins

The Daily Mail and other media have stated that Portsmouth's left sided midfielder, Matthew Taylor, has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The reported fee is in the region of £8 million.

If these rumours are true, do you feel that spending £8 million on Taylor would be a good bit of business? Taylor can play on the left wing, on the left of midfield or as a left wing-back.

I feel that signing a left sided midfielder should have been the clubs priority as we have lacked a left sided midfielder/winger since Ginola graced the White Hart Lane pitch.

And if true, does the £8 million price tag sound a bit steep? If the board and Martin Jol are serious about the player and serious enough to spend £8 million (or there abouts) who am I to argue?

8 million on taylor? Thats way to much for a player thats not even an England regular.

Is there no other ledt sided midfielders out there for less money?

Petrov, but he went to City as they paid him loads per week.

Matty Taylor is a great player and he's staying with us.

The papers need to fill their space and so talk so much rubbish.

You can keep him. 8 million?? Are you sure? He's probably worth 5 at most.

Ive never actually seen him play. Ive only ever seen highlights when he's played.

Do you remeber that goal he scored last season? Cracker!

Is he fast? Can he take on players and go round them? What type of player is he?

He's not particularly fast, but can pass the ball brilliantly

He's a massive Spurs fan and would where his heart on his shirt whenever he plays for us. We should have signed him ages ago. 8 million may be a lot, but i am sure he'll be worth every penny

I'VE NEVER HEARD OF HIM? £8 MILLION FOR A PLAYER THAT'S NOT EVEN IN THE ENGLAND SQUAD?

I THOUGHT ENGLAND NEEDED LEFT SIDED PLAYERS, YET THIS TAYLOR ISN'T EVEN IN THE SQUAD.

NO WONDER SVEN HAS HAD TO BUY SO MANY FOREIGNERS. ITS SO MUCH CHEAPER GETTING PLAYERS FROM THE CONTINENT RATHER THAN SPENDING ALL YOUR MONEY IN RIP-OFF BRITAIN

pay up i say. we do need some one with a left foot. would of prefered drenthe but i hear he has gone to real with snejder. such a shame. im sick and tired of seeing melbranque and lennon cut inside all the time. i think 8 mill is worth it.......although might be worth seeing if barry will go instead...or even van der vaart. but i do rate taylor and i wouldnt be upset if we got him for 8 mill. him and bale would do well on the left.

f*ck it he's fit and got a left peg - get him in.

Is he worth 8million? Is anyone?

We just managed to flog Mido for £7m so getting Taylor would be great for £8. Hes actually got a left foot that is able to cross!! With him and Bale swapping, we'd be far more balanced!!! Sign him!!

Absolutely spot on. The transfer market is a bit steep at the moment so I wouldn't expect Pompey to let him go for anything less that £8m (unless we throw a player into the deal). I know Harry is an admirer of Defoe but I wouldn't want to see him leave in any deal for Taylor (even more so now Berba may be out for a few weeks).

8 MILLION IS WAY TO MUCH. GET GUTI FOR 5 MILLION. HE MAY BE OLD BUT WE CAN GET 3 SEASONS OUT OF HIM AND BY THAT TIME TAARABT WILL COME THROUGH

Have a look at this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PqQNkJKduM

Its Rafael Van Der Vaart on you tube. He's quality and would cost about £10m apparently. How much better is he than poxy Taylor?

Due to the list of injuries we have, a lot of teams will hold out for a big transfer fee as they know we're pretty desperate for cover.

Guti is also a good move. Would he play on the left though? The times I've seen him he has played in the middle (and battled/passed very wel). Would like to see both come in and shake up the midfield a bit.

When will Huddlestone get his chance? Please get rid of Jenas. Swap him for Taylor!

He is so useless!

Thinking about your boyfriends again you pompy faggot.

On the JJ point; you're completely right. He lacks backbone. What kind of midfielder is Jenas?

Some say that he's a defensive midfielder, while others claim him to be an attacking midfielder.

I think he's neither. I classify him as a useless midfielder.

England needs left sided midfilders? I would say 1st choice: Downing 2nd: J.Cole 3rd: Taylor..

ahhhhh come on Taylor is overated.
first. 8 mil to much. second. his god but thats it, hi wont do.
we payd 1 mil for Aaron Lennon so there are other alternativs.
personly i think its god that jol have some patient and gets the player he sees best.

GREAT EXCLUSIVE...THIS WAS REPORTED LAST WEEK. GLAD YOU'RE UP TO DATE.
THIS SITE REALLY IS A JOKE.

Danny Rose will play LW but Jol won't risk it, especially of he wont risk Taarabt. Hope he puts JJ on the right, Zok and Boateng in the middle, and Taarabt on the left against Derby. However as it is a must win he will stick with the same lot as tuesday, or bring Teemu back whick means robbie and bent up front. God help us at the back!!

If you reckon this site is crap then why come here?

the only place that MJ should put jenas is on the fucking transfer list !...

right wing ,left wing blah blah blah,i know where hed look good ,West ham !

I know 8 mill is ridiculous, but I've been saying that we should buy Taylor for a year and a half. He's great -- way too good for Portsmouth. Can play left back and left wing. Skil.ful, good finisher, would be playing for England if he was at a bigger club with good coaching. Mind you, given the fact that we're so much less than the sum of our parts, there has to be a question-mark over the coaching at WHL. Bale is probably more talented than him, but he has bags more experience and Christ, could we not use that in the defence right now -- which is currently a dictionary definition of naivety. Get him in. And bloody Curtis Davies -- why hasn't he been signed today?

Steve said...

Have to say that I belong to the school of thought which dictates that JJ should be on the bench. And, given his performances so far this season, stay there. Why hasn't the vastly superior Huddlestone been starting? And I would start Taraabt ahead of Steed, too.

i saw taylor play last season and was impressed with his footwork and pace along the left flank. He'd be a great sigingin for spurs. We still need more muscle and another creator though.

Anonymous said...

taylor is a ponce, we dont need him, it would be like buying Jenas all over again. and because he is "british" that makes his value atleast twice as much as he is really worth, i bet if a turkish side tried to buy him, they would ask for only £2-3million

i saw mummy kissing santa

your all missing the point here......it does not matter how much he is, its not your money that the club is spending, the point is we need a left sided player and have done for years, and the current start we have had we should be doing everything in our power to get him or someone else at the club and fast before our season is over before it has started.........wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!!

sgwbelfast said...

not only is he left sided which we need (witness any game esp at WHL, wall the players drift to the right) but he has drive something our midfield badly need. No matter the combo in the centre I never get a sense of purpose, there are no match winners in there and Taylor at least has a go, so many times at Portsmouth if he has no options to pass he has a shot with some spectacular results. Bring him in

Supposedly Spurs did put an offer of £4 milion in but were rebuffed, I reckon if this does go through maybe £6 million will end up being more like the price.
