It's up to us to save our Martin!

By Sam Jenkins

It's settled! The majority of us dedicated Spurs fans want Big Martin Jol to stay as our manager and spearhead our season.

It's now down to us to do something about it. We implore as many of you as possible to create banners such as "We Love Martin Jol", "We Want Martin to Stay", "God Save Martin Jol", etc, showing the affection we have for our manager.

Let's show the board that we are behind the manager that has and is bringing the "Glory Glory" days back to the Lane by signing his praises as loud as we can, whatever the score at the time against United.

We need to voice our concerns to the board, making it clear to them that we are completely behind Martin Jol and HIS team.

Even if we are defeated by Manchester United on Sunday, let's not feel downhearted, but instead, let's united and get behind our team and Martin Jol!

COYS!!!

No matter what is happening against Manure, we can't vent our frustrations onto the team.

We must not stop singing Martin's name!

"It's settled! The majority of us dedicated Spurs fans want Big Martin Jol to stay as our manager and spearhead our season"

Really? I must have missed the poll of all Spurs fans.

Anyway, back to reality. The only people who can save Martin Jol are the players and Martin Jol. They need to play well week in week out and not only play well after receiving some much needed booing and fierce criticism of their pathetic efforts against Sunderland and Everton.

Anonymous said...

I doubt anyone expects us to beat United. We should keep singing his name as I am sure Levy will be there

Anonymous said...

we must be careful what we wish for....

I dont think you need a poll 1.28. You can see from that we're behind him from the phone-ins, forums, blogs, etc.

It's not rocket science.

1.30, why do you say that? Do you think that we'll become stagnant under Jol this season?

Anonymous said...

If we lose to Man U it makes no difference - we must support Martin Jol. How dare the board be so arrogant to think that they can overrule what the fans really want - WHICH IS MARTIN JOL!!!

Why shouldn't we beat them, City shoed that if you defend well and have a bit of luck they are vunerable at the moment? We should have Dawson and Bale and maybe Berbs back...we should go there and give them hell

They've chosen Comolli over Jol by the sounds of it.. but the reasons don't make sence to me!! Appaerently because Levy likes the continental structure, therefore jol is the one that would be replaced??? Does this mean he's not a fan of the coaching structure? Why can't we keep the continental structure and replace comolli, it would be easier for Tottenham to settle with a new sporting director, than a new manager... I'm soconfused by all this... he should get his 5 uyrs that they said they'd give him at the start, if he does it 5 yrs, that would still be a great achievement.. let's not foget BJ (Before Jol) we were absolute SHIT!!

Anonymous said...

martin jol is the daddy, so sing up for martin jol!!! let levy know we love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Agreed, we should all show how much we appreciate what he has done for us the past couple of years. Sure, he sometimes makes mistakes, but so do Benitez, Mourinho, Fergie and Wenger.

If the worst happens and he does go, I would lay some blame on the mindless "fanatics" who booed the team off mid-week. They would have added a lot of weight to the "anti-Jol" faction inside WHL. May you mindless morons never darken our stands again.

Anonymous said...

If Comolli is that good let him bugger off to join up again with the Gooners - he's worked with Wenger in the past, maybe he's a spy, trying to destroy us from within.
LEAVE OUR MARTIN ALONE!!!

ok not just based on this season i think Jol has only done ok . before everyone starts with the 2 5th place finishes etc imo we as a club sorted stuff big time and any good manager (which Jol is) would of acheived the same! The prob for me is that im not convinced he is a great manager and if anything has hindered our progress with some seriously bad decisions . to let it slip 2seasons ago was poor considering the lead we had and 4th wasnt lost at west ham, last season the cup games he was disgraceful. as much as i hate to say it if wenger was our manager we would of more than likely of made the champs lge 2 seasons ago. he has done well to get us where we are and fairplay for that ,he is good but we need great to kick on from here imo , is he great? im not so sure

1.41 maybe your right maybe your wrong only time will tell,BUT knee jerk manager sackings have been the demise of many a club, look at how shit Newcastle have been under more managers than there have been seasons, wake up fella we need to Judge BMJ on the year not a poor game aginst Everton, i for one dont think we were that bad against sunderland, maybe BMJ should have left Berbatov on for the whole of that game as i thought he was very creative, Everton we were SHIT but hey ho you have to lose to improve sometimes, and we only had three points from three games at the start of last season!!

The thing that amazes me is that Jol is getting ALL the blame for the poor start and lack of a left winger.
Surely Comolli's job is to find a left winger and he seems to have failed magnificently! All he seems to bring in are mediocre midfielders. So while we're screaming for a left winger, we should be screaming at Comolli.
Jol is the by far the best manager weve had in my 25 yrs of supporting Spurs. He should be given the rest of this season to show what he can do for us.
Were above Man Utd in the table, but Ive yet to hear one person calling for Ferguson to be sacked!

Spurs fans are turning into Newcastle fans, ruining the club's heart with fickle, unreasonable demands. The people moaning are the sort of people who boo Jenas but celebrate when he scores.

'A better manager would have got champs league', 'jol has no ambition' - this ain't championship/football manager, this is REAL LIFE. It takes what it takes: and whilst Jol improves every YEAR (not taken on a game by game basis) he should be given a chance. If he gets worse than 5th and good cups runs, only then should the trigger be pulled.

I think for two whole years of improvement we as fans can endure 2 GAMES of poor performances.

My opinion is that he is growing as a manger with the team.

MJ is a good manager, no doubt, but there is a massive question over whether he can take us on the next level.

We have spent a huge amount of money on the team last 2/3 seasons, so to get 5th each year was the absolute minimum. The teams around us in the table have spent far less, and arguably achieved more.

Personally, I will give MJ one more year, but sorry, it doesn't look like he has the acumen and guile to get us where the support, Levy and history wants us to be...

Kevin said...

If he keeps playing that useless twat Gardner he deserves the sack.

Anonymous said...

What the f*ck.....WBA want £15 million for Curtis Davies????

Based on what? Are they trying to get a million for each minute he played in the Premiership?

Anonymous said...

The link to the petition should be put on as many sites as possible, then hopefully Levy will see the depth of support we have for the big man.
The tabloids are only after back page stories to sell their papers.
Its upto US to show the board that the VAST majority of fans want to see Jol remain in charge.
To lose the big man now would be an incredibly huge step backwards.

Anonymous said...

Curtis isn't worth more than £5 million. They are losing out bigtime because he's vowed never to play for them again Ha!

Come on Levy! Keep Jol. He'll teach you a thing or two about loyalty!

Anonymous said...

the reality of life is that if levy and the board want to sack BMJ they will for what ever reason. That said it would be a stupid move. How would a new foreign coach come in and in one season in charge make a difference? wouldn't happen..... BMJ is without doubt the best manager we have had since Keith Birkenshaw who was the best since Lord Bil Nicholson ( well thats what he should have been).

Years ago i remember watching the spammers in a cup game at Villa Park and all you could here throughout the game was "Billy Bonds claret and blue army" it was like a heart beat to the teams performance and it never stopped.

Often i have heard fellow supporters say when asked to cheer and sing "give us something to cheer about and we will" well since BMJ took over he has in the main given us our Tottenham back, something at last, most of the time, to be proud of once again.

With our opponents in mind i was also watching the "Football years" and there was one Alex Ferguson, and a cup final away from getting the sack before beating Crystal Palace in a replay....the rest as they say is history.

So its up to the fans now.....shut the journalists up and show just how much you want BMJ because i want to see his beaming smile after the game against the Arsepaste!!!

ok Everton havent spent much but they STICJK by Moyes thru thick and thin,Man City have spent a Kings Ransom on new players, how can you say Mister Jol is a poor manager when he is struggling with so many players out, would be a headache for the best of managers, no natural left back against everton bloody hell i would not like that dilemma

Anonymous said...

Don't think you Martin lovers are the majority. He's ok and I chant his name and give the team as much support as I can - sometimes in a minority myself there.
However he has still to convince me that he is a top manager.
I personally will support the board and always support Spurs.

Pete said...

Martin Jol has done wonders for spurs since he joined and the board would be stupid and niaeve to get rid of him just because the first two results didn't go our way. If anyone should be going , it should be Damien Comolli who just isn't up to the job of being director of football at Spurs.
Given that most of the premiership teams didn't play well first game anyway , a loss to Sunderland was more bad luck than poor performance. We need stability within the club and Martin has given that.

Anonymous said...

2.01 listen mate , i dont want the big fella to go, he deserves this season , for me something of merit would be 4th or a cup win or even a final as that would be improvement on last year as long we try get 5th again, as for other teams its all relative in the way that a manager like coppell with no money last season, or a manager that keeps a team up against the odds etc, could imo have done a better job than someone that only just acheives the accepted asspirations for there club and that doesnt mean id want them to manage us! All this being said i hope and pray jol is as good as everyone seems to think he is , and i for one wouldnt contemplate sacking him , not this season at least.

2.12 i agree all i was saying we need to give him till the end of the year at least. I live in Reading and the team here have a great Spirit But so do we!!!! i think a manager like Coppell would be the same as BMJ, and lets be honest BMJ has come from a small dutch Club and as for time in management he is better than Ramos, before idiots say 2 ueafa cups i mean after 5 6 years in management Ramos had not done much, was only in the last two years he came good, well if you can call blowing la liga title last year

Its a sad state of affairs when 4th in the league is considered an achievement. I know it means champs league football but realistically, on the back of our performances against sunderland and everton (derby were truly awful, should've been at least 7-0), wouldnt spurs in their current state just embarass themselves and us, look what happened to everton when they qualified, embarassing. I'm 100% behind Jol but some of his team selections have been very suspect t say the least, ie playing gardner instead of rocha against sunderland.

Anonymous said...

if anyone is going to old trafford on sunday then they should make banners now!! in huge support of martin jol, a man who has led us to successive fifth place finished and a team of real quality!

a bad start does not constitute sacking him! its a real shame and i expected more from daniel levy
as for commoli.....if there is a problem then he is the problem! martin jol over him any day!

Anonymous said...

whatever Spurs fan doesn't back Martin should go support Arsenal. Jol has done so much for us, how can he be judged when 1/2 our players are injured? again, its the beginning of the season- and look at Man Utd- why is no one going on about Ferguson? we'll be in the top 5 at least and if everyone gets off his back for a bit they might be surprised

Kevin said...

Top 5? what glory does that get us? We need to at least win a cup before we start thinking about top 4 and all that, the only reason Levy and all his mates want top 4 is the money it generates.

Anonymous said...

'Its settled'...since when? You cannot claim your opinion as the majority view. This site is getting worse, very childish. We beat a poor Derby team and now everything is ok? The question is how comes Jol did not get the team up for the matches against Sunderland and Everton? It seems he only makes sensible decisions once gets worried about his job, i.e. finally picks Taarabt.

Anonymous said...

Its not the bad start that is leading to questions about him being sacked, it all also the bloody awful management for two thirds of last season. Went out of the cups as soon as we played anyone decent, and were lucky that Reading and Bolton decided to throw away 15 pt leads over us.

Anonymous said...

Lets all get behind Martin Jol- How many times over the previous 10 yrs have we been challenging the top five in the league? Not every team can win the league can they or win silverware? As long as we are up there challenging (which we are) then what have we got to complain about?
Jemains Jenas out though!

Anonymous said...

2:34...If JJ plays every match like he did on Saturday he can stay in the Spurs team. He loses his England place which then motivates him to perform like that. Malbranque has improved greatly, on this form he looks a steal at £3m.

Kevin said...

I tell you what I got to complain about...throwing away leads against chelsea and arsenal in the cups...losing the way we did to sevilla in the uefa and generally some of the bad decisions jol makes on a regular basis which the "top 4" managers dont seem to do

Fat Dutch Clown said...

The bloke is over-rated.

He's spent £100M plus, its the players getting us to 5th, not his tactics or managerial wonderstrokes.

Yes he deserves the plaudits for taking us this far but given the huge backing he's had it's not quite the wonderous job many would have you believe.

Cry into your bobble hats and scarves all you like, but managerially he's a novice, therefore he is replaceable.

I've been a season-ticket holder since 1976. I've seen a lot go on at the lane in the thirty-odd years.

I too like Martin Jol as he seems like a decent guy, but I have been calling for his head since the end of last season.

He has no plan B, cannot seem to find a left sided midfielder and hasn't taken us to the next level and never will.

I feel sorry for him as I feel that Spurs are too big for him.

We need to act now and bring in another manager that will take us to the next level. Whether or not that is Ramos, I don't know. i do know that Jol's time has come, and so do the board.

No matter what you do in order to save him, the boards decision looks to be made up.

ARSEnal has not achieved anything of note in 2 years and this season doesn't seem to be looking any better. To compound matters, Le Miser has not renewed his contract, yet you don't hear of anyone calling for the sacking of ARSEnal's manager.

Jol might not be perfect manager for us but he is the best thing to happen for Spurs in a long time. The players love and respect him and that in itself counts for a great deal on the pitch.

Comolli clearly makes the signings so surely its his job to find a LM

The trouble with football now is that people want 'instant' success. Players up and leave to guarantee themselves a 'winners' medal and boardrooms and fans are no better in principle are they? What happended to having a squad of players and a manager you stuck with through thick and thin in the idea that things will come good given time and investment? The investment is being made by Spurs and the time now needs to be given to Jol. If you had told me in the dark days of Ardies, Francis, Gross and Graham that we would finish 5th in league two years runing and be disappointed not to finish in top four i would have taken that surely?! Yes Jol lacks in certain areas but on the whole i like him- he is honest and the players seem to like palying under him. With regards this left sided player issue, surely COmmoli must take some blame for this? And anyway, we seem to think there is a 'ready made' answer for these problem positions dont we? Get off Jols back, if we finish outside top six then it will be dissapointment by the high standards a certain Mr Jol has now set for the club.

Everything we write is original. Maybe the substance isn't, but the literature is. THBN has never cut and pasted another article from any source. If we had, do you think we would still be around?

As we've stated before, we take a look at the news stories doing the rounds, create a new article based on those articles so as to start a debate. Whenever we do, we state where we have received our source of information from; e.g.

The Daily Telegraph has reported....

THBN's site idea is to start a debate.

If any of you are going to copy a story directly from another source, please state it at the beginning or we'll have to delete it.

Now gentlemen , Jol should be allowed to do his job full stop. I for one dont want Ramos or any other mercenary. Ramos has been in managemnt for 20 years and done well in the last three, so lets give Jol the time he deserves, considering the fact that the man actualy wants to be at Tottenham and would stick with us should an offer from the continent come up.
You think Ramos or whoever would hang around if a big club from spain or italy came in for him? Lets not forget Ramos bought Fredi Kanoute and Jol signed Berbatov. Need I say more?
If its down to Comolli however ,is he not responsable for Ekotto (rubbish) and 8.5m Zokora (tries hard but is also rubbish).Would the board give a new manager 20/30 million on top of what they've already spent ? Or is there going to be another 5 year plan ? Lets stop all this Bull and let the man do his job.

Jermaine Jenas and Zokora are rubbish and i believe the main reasons can look decidely average. They offer no real protection to the back four and they offer little if any creativity going foward- how many 10 yrd passes go astray from these guys? How many FOWARD passes do they offer in a game? Jenas may score the odd goal here and there but not enough to justify his place in team. Against Derby Huddestone made a big difference when played instead of ZOkora agreed? Question for everyone- is Jenas the most over rated player ever?!!!

Written by Surfy on Glory Glory but i wanted to share this cos i could not have put it better myself

Quote
"I can't think of a more apt analogy for the media fueled shite that is bouncing around about Spurs at the moment. Spurs have spent a lot of money over a long time getting in their expensive furniture - the players - and getting that furniture to do the job its supposed to do. Martin Jol has been at the centre of literally everything that has been successful these past 2 years. 5th in the league twice. Do those words not sink in with the cretins calling for his head after two games of a season which so far has seen every single one of the top five from last season drop points? Chelsea. Dropped points. Man Utd. Dropped points. Liverpool. Dropped points. Arsenal. Dropped points. Spurs. Dropped points. Need I go on?

Any rival fan outside of White Hart Lane looking in can see we're onto a good thing right now. Jol, Comolli, Levy, Hughton, all have contributed in their own way to giving the club stability, strength in depth, and genuine competition for places. Its only the idiots who claim to be supporters, who are baying for blood after two defeats. There's a saying that goes "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Thats never more true than right now. We've got a top class individual in charge of our team. A man who has integrity, respect and dignity, a man who despite being under pressure still talks to the media, unlike the petulant Ferguson in the case of the BBC, who thinks his sh*t doesn't smell.

Not everything at WHL works all the time. To start a season without 3 left backs, 2 centre halves, and our best winger, only to then lose another centre half and or best striker in the first week, is bad luck. However whereas last season we would have been hoping that Mido fancied playing this weekend, Jol had Darren Bent to turn to. Thanks Damien for giving Martin the players needed. We're supposedly still after a leftie so there's a chance we'll be welcoming someone else to the lane in coming weeks, meaning another of the problem spots in the squad will be filled. Bottom line, we're fans of a club that is doing everything in its power to progress. And if we leave the situation as it is, we will progress, have no fear.

To all the "journalists" who over the weekend have presented their irrefutable evidence that there is a power struggle at Spurs, that mutiny is a given and that Jol is no longer respected, I say bollocks. Any business man worth his salt knows you don't go out and spent £40m on players then sack the coach chosen to manage these players after two games. Jol has spent two seasons and a bit at the Lane, and during that time has forged a strong relationship with the coaching staff, the players, the fans and the board. To suggest that all his efforts have been undone by 2 games, is nothing short of publishing lies.

So to the sensible fan, the confident fan, the faithful fan. I say fair play to you all. Support Jol, support Spurs and watch as once again this season turns into a memorable one. In the premier league. In the league cup. In the FA cup. In Europe.

Not saying i want us to get relegated with a shite team of players or anything but am saying that we are wanting to much to soon i spose!

People are saying that Jol will be under pressure (AGAIN) if we lose to united at weekend!!!! Its delusional to go there expecting anything against the champions- sure go there and try our best and stick it into em but to expect a result against them is madness. Hope for a result maybe.
Leave Jol alone, the guy is a decent honest man who has our interests at heart. Sack Jenas!!!!

I wouldn’t been surprised if the old cuddly bear collapses with a heart attack under all this pressure and strain

Sort it out Levy - what the hell is going on

Never mind the fans showing aggressive support for the manager, let's see it from the players.

Go on the Spurs!

I am the only person who thinks there is a hidden agenda here it can not be just about the first two games - (No ones stupid engough to sack a manger that soon after finishing 5th)

If i am right and what with the next couple of fixtures we have no hope against utd on sunday unfortunately as they in a worse postion than us i expect a bit of the treament we handed out to derby.

It will be just the what they are looking for to sack him

come on keep it up

We must show our support for Jol at old Trafford

I remember when Maggie Thatcher pressured Tottenham to drop Ricardo Villa for the FA Cup Final and after we won we sang his Name for Half an Hour

hair raising stuff

we need to do the same for Jol

the i love jol to the death people on here sound just as stupid as the jol out people! jols a top class manager etc etc since when? he came as a coach or assistant after getting blown out by fergie. He always comes unstuck against most of the other prem managers, only the players doing the job, has flunked so far whenever we have come close to doing something.he makes dodge team selections, has fav players that are undroppable, dodgy tactics , most managers would of got us top 6 no problem with the squad we have, jol has hardly any influance on players joining, how many dutch players have we got coz of his name in holland? the reason we get players like tarrabt is coz of comolli and we should be thankfull we got someone that is sorting spurs for tommorrow n not just today n be glad he aint doin it for the mob down the road. at the mo im totally with the board on this one jol blagged the job, if they dont think hes up2 it they are right to act now because we could lose a lot of players if we dont make it this year and be back to square one!

you lot are havin a bit of a laugh jol was just in the right place at the right time,Daniel Levy is the man that has turned the club around and if he thinks (asst manager) jol aint up to it, im with him 100% he aint a fool like you lot suggest and will do whatever to take us forward whatever that may be like he has so far. I remember standing in the park lane singing glenn hoddles name, through blind loyalty , Levy is on the ball and there are an awful lot of people that have been taken in by jol but they are the mugs not Levy

Anonymous said...

You can stick daniel levy up your arse you can stick you daniel levy up your arse you can stick your daniel Levy stick your daniel Levy stick your daniel Levy up your arse because we want Jol on the bench because we want Jol on the bench we want jol on the bench

Christ this makes some embarrasing reading. Martin Jol is just a man in charge of Spurs - he isnt your mother, or father. Some of you must be typing one-handed the way some of these messages fawn about the bloke!

He is neither the best or worst manager we've had or likely to, but take your heads out the sand. With our current squad a decent manager would struggle NOT to acheive what Jol has. He picks the team and the tactics, hand on heart how many times have you pondered about both? I think we have a long way to go to break 4th simply as Jol seems reluctant to play with two proper wide men. He has no European pedigree at the end of the day and if we're building for the future we need someone with that knowledge. We constantly improve squads with players of better pedigree, it happens with managers as well. No need to piss your Spurs bedspreads about it in an emotional hissy fit.

THFC is the only important thing here and if Levy thinks he has a better man for the job so be it - his recent record in turning the club's fortunes around has been excellent after his previous errors.

If Levy is so fantastic why are all our transfers so long and drawn out and we often miss out on players because they wait until the last moment or pay over the odds

Bale could 6 months longer than should
Kaboul dragged on and on
Bent same as Kaboul just took them so long to get him signed
Ditto the prince

Still no left winger but we missed out on Petrov because they waited for man city to come they could have been sorted that out 12 months earlier while city were still broke

This is not a new thing either they haggle and wait on all transfer while most teams are doing the business

Lets not mention our Stadium, Ar*sum have designed built and playing in a new 60,000 seated stadium we are still talking about ours we are years behind even if they announce plans this year its going to take 5 years. We can’t compete on any level until that gets sorted

Dont be stupid... cant you all see it just spanish media talk!!
He aint going no where, but once again the media are ruling football and everones listening.

This was to upset seville in the real madrid game last week, seville won the game.... so u see media cannot upset them so why have the managed to put a spanner in the works at the mighty white hart lane???

Jol's number one, all i need to say is berbatov... say no more

If that alone is not enough to keep Jol then loo at our last two seasons final position in the league nto mentioning Europe!!

BMJ has been a breath of fresh air every since he came to our club and he's done more in two years, than all the other managers combined say over the previous fifteen years, so all these goings on now its some crazy shit it really is. Are the board actually thinking of doing this, removing one of the foundations of what we have been building, was it not Levy who said its a "five" year plan. BMJ has only had his own team for two years and nobody can deny he's drastically improved us, both in performances on the pitch and creating an atmosphere at the club that quality players want to be a part of.
