Who will take on Defoe?

By Sam Jenkins
For THBN

The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham Hotspur and England striker, Jermain Defoe, will quit the club in search of first-team football.

With Darren Bent's arrival, Defoe has an even lesser chance of making the first team than last season.

I personally feel that Jermain Defoe should sign a new contract, and stay at the club and fight for his place. It's fairly obvious that none of the top clubs in the Premiership are interested in offering him first-team football. He could, I suppose, sign for Villa or Portsmouth. He would, after all, get first-team action at those clubs.

Would a move away from Spurs improve Defoe's chances of breaking into the England team? I don't think it would.

Jermain will get a lot of first-team action at Spurs next season, especially with all the games the club will play. He has to remember that football has become a squad-game. Martin Jol implements a squad rotation system and Defoe would be a part of that. Darren Bent is very aware of the situation at the club. He knows that he will have to fight for his place.

I believe that an attacking line up of Bent and Defoe would scare many Premiership defenses.

Should he go? If so, what price do you the club should put on his head, bearing in mind that his contract is running down?

If he does leave the club, and with the impending departure of Mido, who should the club turn to as their 4th choice striker?

Let's stop the sulking defoe. Earn your right to play in the first-team!

The club shouldn't sell him!

If they don't sell him, he could leave on a free you twit.

He obviously doesn't have the balls to stick around now that Bent's in the picture.

Let him go to Villa for £8 mil

He's not good enough anyway! Get rid of him quickly!

Pekhart!!!!!

Who's pekhart? What team does he play for?

Bernard should be given a chance to play. Pekhart is coming through steadily now too.

The club have stopped him from going out on loan as Jol wants to use him the first team.

He's extremely promising.

Defoe should go now. We have Bernard and Pekhart who are itching to take his place in the first team squad.

Bernard and Pekhart are super finishers and I think that Pekhart is better than Defoe now.

If he ain't going to sign the contract, then he'll have to go.

If Bent, who is in the same limelight as Defoe when it comes to England selections, cost us 16 mill, then we could probably get 10 mill for Defoe.

pekhart is a czech player in our academy and reserve team. 20 in 20 games for the academy last season.

I've heard that Martins will be leaving Newcastle to sign for either Manchester United or Barcelona.

If that move takes place, Newcastle will try to buy Defoe for around £10 million.

That would be a good bit of business from our point of view.

Lets hope it happens!

Defoe will go.If he's been offered £30,000 a week that's far less than Bent has been given. Why should he feel loyalty. What happened to the story about Berbatov been given a massive pay rise/new contract?

All that we've been told & read about on various ITK sites, is that Berbatov won't sign a new contract until next season.

He does though, have a gentleman's agreement with Daniel Levy, not to leave this season.

If we do get into the Champions League, things may change. Unfortunately, no one but Mr. Dimitar Berbatov knows the full truth.

Defoe has 2 years left on his current contract, NOT 1!!
But the £8-10m we could expect for him now will be halved by next summer as he enters the final year of his contract.
With Pekhart (for whoever asked who he is look on the official site under academy players), Barcham, Barnard and Taarabt coming through in the reserves we've a good crop of young attacking players that'd be happy to have a place on the bench abd still able to do a job if called upon.
IF (and it is a big if as the info came from the Star/Mail) he won't sign a contract extension he will be sold as the club will never let another "Solgate" occur.

they did though say that the club were trying to sort out the fee with Auxerre. They new that before anyone else did.

This is a blog site. They write articles to start a debate. It's wanks like you that spoil it for everyone.

If you dont like this site, piss off!

Defoe has 2 years to go not one which means that we dont HAVE to sell him. If we can get 12 mill for him and not sell him to one of the big four then great, but I think he will still get plenty of games and goals in a team which will be fighting on four front (hopefully)

Defoe is well aware that if he moves to a big club, he will experience the same problem that poses him at spurs. he is also well aware that moving to a lesser team will hurt his england prospects even more. otehrwise the lad would have already had been sold the moment he was told that bent is on his way into spurs last month

Defoe should definitely NOT go !! I hope he stays and proves how good he is. He can't leave on a free for antother 2 years & I hope he will sign another contract soon.Barnard & Pekhart are not proven at Premeirship level yet.A couple of injuries & suspensions & you'll all be asking "why did we sell Defoe?".

when Bent signed, our strike force was better than Man Utd, Chelsea and Ars*nal (according to The Times). if Defoe leaves there will have been no point in signing Bent, we won't be any better than we were before we signed him

You are all also forgetting the new striker whizzkid we have just signed from Spain, apparently he is also something special. In all honesty if JD does not want to stay then let him go and bag the money, we have sufficient quality cover so no real worries. I also think if a top 4 does not come in for him he will stay until the January window.COYS!!!

"Defoe will go.If he's been offered £30,000 a week that's far less than Bent has been given. Why should he feel loyalty"

HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS FIGURES? Are you Defoe's Agent.

defoe has to be kept in my opinion. for the clowns saying pekhart should be played are on drugs. someone even gone on to say he is better than defoe.

YOUTH PLAYERS WILL NOT CUT IT. if we have any ambitions we cannot sell players like defoe. by all means get rid of mido, he's embarressing. but defoe, come off it.

barcham is shit, barnard it looks like the ship has sailed for him imo. i pose this question, has anyone who calls for pekhart and co to play actually seen them in a game?

i think not.

ASPEAR you mean the spanish whizz kid who went the whole of last season without scoring a goal. it makes me laugh when people bang on about playing the youngsters when they have never seen them play

FERNANDO said...

I was meant to add Prick at the end of my last post

Anonymous said...

Yor mean the spanish youngster who is actually a left back, Sky Sports messed up the story saying he is a striker

Pekhart is better than Defoe?? Why isn't he in the first team then - have you even seen him play?

Also the "Spanish Striker" is a left back, as stated on the Spurs website when he signed...

There is no way we should let Defoe go for any less than £12m and I personally would rather he stayed

SO

Lets just recap

1.
700 hours ago you told us Berbs was going to sign a new deal within 48 hrs - you are thus far only 652 out - now you are backtracking.

2.
Kaboul was going to sign - well he hasnt.

3.
He was going to be the last signing until the last 2 weeks of August - er hello have you met Darren Bent - club record signing !!!! who was signed er last week - 6 weeks before "anyone" else was going to be signed

Your ITK contacts clearly know jack shit - so why your even bothering to drum up shit is beyond me - this site is literally the worst spurs blog around.EVERTHING you post is pure and utter crap.

Mr Levy

I love this site, the original Spurs blog

Kaboul has now signed but everyone knew this before the season even ended.

This crap site took a gamble and said he will be signing in two weeks (that was over three weeks ago) in the hope that if it came true people might actually think they know something.

Simple fact is, this site makes up crap and rips off tabloid news and pretends to be ITK.

this sits still better then the other though aint it
