Glory, Glory Tottenham Hotspur!!

By Matthew Moles
For THBN

What is it about this great club that makes every single one of you love it so much? For me it’s everything about Tottenham that makes it so special. For me, as with a lot of you I have never known any other way. I was never given a choice because my father was a die hard Spurs fan ever since the day his parents took him to see his first game at the Lane in the early 60’s. Would I have supported them otherwise? Maybe, but more than likely I would have been swept along with all the children of my generation supporting Man U from afar, never venturing to the north of England to watch my so called heroes as is the case with the majority of their so called ‘FANS’.

Am I glad I was never given a choice… you bet your frigging life I am. Had it not of been for the influence of my dad, I would never have witnessed some of the most enthralling and memorable moments of my life, and some of the most painful too.

I am not a religious man by any means, but I do sometimes find myself praying in the hope that something good will happen once more to our mighty club and that we will once again be at the top of the English and European leagues.

The same goes for my beliefs, I stopped believing in Santa and the tooth-fairy long ago but one thing that has never stopped, and probably never will stop is my love for THFC and my belief that one day we will be back where we belong.

How many teams have a history as rich as ours? How many teams can boast being FA Cup winners on no less than 8 occasions or the first team to win ‘The Double’? How many teams can boast having some of the best players to have ever graced the game; Blanchflower, Mackay, Greaves, Hoddle, Gascoigne, Lineker, Klinsmann and Ginola? Not many, that’s for sure.

Our current board has done very well in putting this young, gifted team together in a relatively small amount of time. Yet they are constantly chastised by a small section of our fans and for what? Doing their best? Doing everything they can to bring the glory days back to the Lane?

How many of our current crop will go down in history and be mentioned alongside the players above? I think three of our players are already on their way. The three are King, Robinson and Defoe with potentially another on their way into the club in Edgar Davids. Routledge, Dawson and Ziegler all have the potential to do the same, but is Martin Jol the man that can make these players excel? I certainly think so, do you?

The future looks bright, the future looks lillywhite!!

  6. just heard on talksport that owen is likely to leave madrid now they,ve signed robinho. i can just picture him turning out in a spurs shirt at the lane.
the reason we love spurs so much is that we have ,what i like to call proper supporters , not the plastic type glory hunters that you get at teams like chelsea and man utd. we sell out week after week ,winning or losing, rain or shine.
HES GOT NO HAIR BUT WE DONT CARE

  7. Owen surely can't stay in Madrid now?

Can see him coming back to England, but not to the mighty Spurs i'm afraid!?!?

  8. Arsenal being SNUBBED/REJECTED by players again :) Especially when you consider it's them lot that make up these "nearly" jokes. Goes to show - people in glass houses

  9. We have been told that Arsenal would have funded the Baptista purchase with loans.

They would have paid an initial fee of £6 million and then the balance with a loan at the end of the season.

They are in real financial trouble.

We are sure that they will have trouble in the up coming season. They still haven't replaced their keepers!

    That can't be good.

  18. my love affair started in 1977 when i went to see Stoke v Spurs, Glen Hoddle's debut. As a kid I lived 2 doors away from Steve Perryman's parents and his dad took me to that game and also to my first home game against Forest , when Hoddle scored and the ball never touched the ground from our goal keeper till it hit the back of the forest net. I stayed away from Spurs for a season after Venables was sacked, but then returned as a steward. I now look after the away fans in the lower south, but also do our coaches to away games. Our supporters are among the best if not the best in the country and I am pleased to say at the moment myt kids are future spurs fans, but they are only 6 and 4.

  19. WAS SCEPTICAL ON DAVIDS IF A FEE WAS INVOLVED, BUT LIKE WE SAY DOWN HERE IN SINGAPORE-IF ITS FREE WHY COMPLAIN.DAVIDS WILL DO WELL BARRING THE YELLOW/RED CARDS HE S INFAMOUS FOR.VAN DER MYDE AS I HAD SUGGESTED EARLIER IS A WORTHY BUY-BUT HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING CONCRETE AS YET.MIDFIELD COVERED,SOLID GOALKEEPERS AND DEFENSE,ALL WE NEED NOW IS A CONSISTENT STRIKER-MICHEL OWEN MAYBE?-CHEERS

  20. He has done a fantastic job with spurs! i had my doubts when dl took over but now it all looks like things are turning around for us....however we have got to remember how manure had a succesful decade, with two or three bad runs beforehand while his young tem gained experience. we need to get rid of a few to save the youngsters getting angry, like sorry to say this, bunje, brown, jackson, kanoute (for a player who has pride in our shirt and would give anything to play in it, unlike 'im not going to play friendlies' kanoute. anyway hail to all spurs fans out there, we are the best, dont forget it!

  32. i was also made into a spurs supporter by my father who followed them during the sixties, and i likewise have a son and daughters who are now spurs supporters and proud of it.i unfortunately work in Asia but am glued to the spurs website every day and never fail to try and keep up with the transfers,i honestly think that this is the year the cockeral will start to crow again so lets get behind Jol and company and give them all the support we can.

  33. TOTTENHAM THROUGH AND THROUGH IS THE BLOOD PULSING AROUND MY BODY!

A long time reader of this site via NewsNow and this is my fist post and prob not my last.

i could go off on a tangent and give all the lemon about The sleeping giant waking up in the premiership or that Spurs have the best young and dynamic squad in the premiership............I am not going to though as spurs fans yourselves it just general knowledge that within the next few seasons we will become a top 5 elite team once again!!!!!!! We have all waited so, so, so long so a few more seasons aint gonna hurt a soul.

All that aside i have wrote this post for one reason!

TOTTENHAM DOES NOT WANT MICHEAL OWEN.
Why on earth would we want to sign this player? over-rated he is and i personally think our strike force is bang on! dont change a thing and for sure dont sign this no good stiker.

    Never Red, rahter be dead.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am not sure about Davids. We need a goal scoring midfielder.Davids could of joined Tottenham twice before so why did't he.

    ReplyDelete
  35. SOMETHING CALLED MONEY, but we have him now for 2 years and remember what Klinsmann done for us, well lets hope Davids can do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Think we should wedge Reid in between the posts this season.
    No cunt will score !!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Good article my first game of football I remember watching on TV was the 72 FA Cup final watching the Goons get beat by Leeds ha ha. Like you I really had no choice, and my son was photographed in my Spurs shirt when he was less than a week old. My first live match saw us winning away at Stoke in 75/76 and my first visit to the lane saw Hoddle score in an opening day defeat aainst Boro, my son's first was a draw against Derby in 96/97. We all remember our firsts... I'm jealous of all the youngsters starting out as first timers watching our great team, what memories they're gonna have!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. all you out there having a go at reid just think one thing could you beat him in a hundred metre sprint
answer not a hope in hell just because he's large doesn't mean he isn't fit look at our beloved teddy skillful as bollocks but slower than a car on the m25 in rush hour but could still run fast than any of us could so just lay off the lad

  42. At the begining of last season we had Arneson Santini Jol and Hughton.
We lost the top two and Jol and Hughton have stepped up the ladder. The system worked well but now we have no DOR or backup for Jol or Hughton. Jol has said he's now happy with the squad at least for the time being so I think Levy is out scouting for Management not players. If you recall, Levy was on holiday when he sacked Hoddle after his six games because his time for work is close season when transfer deals are going down. If Arneson was worth the 8 million or so reported doesn't it make sense it will cost about the same (as a package) to replace him? PS My first Spurs game was away to Fulham I think in 1967.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think DL should leave Bridge until January when he hasnt played alot of football and is unhappy because it is effecting his World Cup chances... then we can get Joe Cole at the same time for a reduced fee :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's always been awesome to follow the mighty spurs, whatever the year, whatever the season probably because we live on our wonderful history so much, and we as spurs fans can't help thinking that these days could just be round the corner. Even when we've had some seriously shit players it never stops us believing that one day we will be that great again. Looking forward to next season so much bring it on!!!

    Glory Glory

  45. Iv done the 100m in 12.15sec. So yea, I think I could beat Andy Reid

    ReplyDelete
  46. I started to support Spurs as soon as I was old enough to distinguish between clubs in '75. My grandad went every week and my dad attended most away games as well. My first game at the Lane was against Luton in the old 2nd div. The kids are 1 and 3 but if they dare mutter a word about buying a kit that doesn't feature a cockerel, they will be dumped at a tube station with a cheese sandwich and false passport.

    ReplyDelete
  47. you've done the 100 metres in 12.15 secs is that on grass in football boots i think not

    owen no good!!!!!!!!!!
did you watch his settling in period Spain...was it 11 goals in twelve games... most as sub!!!!!!
Think he played for England at the end of the season... But he only got a hat trick. Why would we want a striker so young with so much experience at the highest level he is great in big games ie against Argentina, Germany (hat trick 5-1), Barcelona etc etc. His goal per minute ratio is better than most isn't it?????????
His and Defoes pace with Davids passing ability and footballing vision..... Nah why would we want that....... Don't tell me you would prefer Joh.... no we don't mention him any more please

  49. no, bear foot on margate beach

  50. My first game was away at Southampton, last game of the season in 1978. We got relegated the year before and I cried so much my Mum promised to take me to a game the next year. We got promoted with a 0-0 draw!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Cheers THBN.

Looks like this could be a Monday unveiling then at the earliest. I don't know about any of you but I seriously hope we go for Boa Morte instead of VDM. VDM is predominantly right-footed and not as quick as Boa Morte. I would prefer Boa Morte. THBN, can you update on the Boa Morte situation and whether we did in fact table the reported bid?

  60. getting fed up waiting on the davids news. grown a really uncomfortable stubble since wednesday !

    ReplyDelete
  61. That link you posted to spursonline.tk - I think the info on there is a little misleading. Kanoute turned down the chance to join West Brom, we didn't directly refuse the offer. As for Chelsea selling Bridge for £5m, no chance. I can't see any way they would sell him for less than £8m and, even then, only if the player asked to leave and in very certain terms. Left back is a weakness for us. Edman is uncertain in the air and prone to rash tackles and Ziegler is a dwarf who has never really played there. Bridge would be a great acquisition (a lot more so than VDM for example), but I can't see it happening.

    ReplyDelete
  62. think Davids just come for a free holiday !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have to say that I do not like the look of Boa Morte. First he is an ex-red, but much more importantly he is not very good. Fast yes, but a journeyman pro. I dont think that this is the way forward. VDM is a much better option - played 29 games for Inter last year, so cannot be bad. And remember, before he went to Inter he was considered to be a legend in the making. Perhaps BMJ can revive his fortunes, as he is certainly reviving ours. I still think Spurs have a chance for Owen. He will never go to United and Arsenal have got no money (offering stage payments for Baptista, what a bunch of jokers.....)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm just listening to TalkSport and a journalist is building up the chances of Owen joining Newcastle. I believe the host of the show thinks he will join Man U. I don't really think anyone, apart from Spurs fans, really thinks we will get Owen or even come in for him. And to be honest, who would you want more: Owen or Defoe? We can't have (or play) with both, that is for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Re my post above, that journalist is actually Warren bloody Barton!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Don't get me wrong. I think Davids is a good signing with his experience. But don't we need a goalscoring midfielder?

Carrick and Davids are of the same mould both defensive players !

    ReplyDelete
  67. As for my Boa Morte post, he is not a journeyman by any means. On his game he can be devastating and very direct PLUS he is a goalscorer which is something we badly need from midfield. We can't rely on our forwards to get us the goals for UEFA Cup/Ch.Lge entirely on their own. Boa Morte would add pace and a goal threat. Who cares if he is an ex-Red. He hasn't got a shrine to Arsenal in his front room!

  69. Let's face it, pds999, Owen is more likely to join Spurs than Newcastle. London location if nothing else. He must see the quality that we are putting together - I think that the Arse are our biggest rivals for his signature....

  77. Hi no it alls or at least so you think why was the Feyenoord director of football and manager watching Tottenham today.

Has your sources not told you or are they still waiting for AVM.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Today we missed the "CLOCK", sorry Carrick.

Our tempo has more precision when he plays and whilst I don't want to lose Pedro, Carrick has a way of switching play that Mendes cannot. A flick, touch and prod and the play finds its way into space.

    TICK, TOCK.

    ReplyDelete
  79. if it was the Feyenoord director maybe spurs are in for castelen not Kuyt? or possibly their looking to recruit a player

    ReplyDelete
  80. If I have one worry this season it is that we have *too many* players. I would like to see us trim our squad by 5 or 6. Maybe send 2 or 3 out on loan and sell Brown, Pamarot, Bunjevcevic and Davis. Also possibly Davenport too as I have not been overly impressed by him. I'd like us to have a squad size of around 32 not 40.

    ReplyDelete
  81. We could certainly do with selling a few midfielders, Brown has to go for one.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Apparently Eddie was at the Reading match and from the pictures seemed to enjoy himself.

    http://tottenhamhotspur.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=897&p=2&stid=8387000

By the way, are there any Arnesen chants ready for the chelsea matches??

    ReplyDelete
  83. pds 999
Just read the blogs and although theres not too many postings yours needs replying to.
Boa Morte is not going to be a Spurs player. That is not the way forward. He aint good enough, nowhere near.
Ziegler was bought as a left back and this boy is gonna be one of the best.18 years old when he pulled THE shirt on.Top class.
As for Defoe and Owen not being able to play together, are you sure??
    Keane and Defoe no.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I´m a spurs fan from the netherlands and I can confirm that Mr. Mark Wotte the director of football of Feyenoord Rotterdam was watching the game against Reading, but this had nothing to do with KUYT or Castelen, but I think Mark Wotte is going to fill in the place of Arnesen. Jol and Mark are friends of there time together at FC DEN HAAG so I think Mark Wotte will our new technical director!!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Its all so exciting, i love it ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  86. thbn got n e news on what that dutch guy just sed>?

    ReplyDelete
  87. has anyone else noticed Ronnie Rosenthal (An agent) sitting next to a mysterious player

    ReplyDelete
  88. Topyid,

    Cheers for the reply.

Yep I am pretty sure Owen and Defoe won't play well together and not just that, but also that Jol wouldn't see them playing together either (two small guys together).

As for Boa Morte, he offers a goal threat (something we BADLY lack from midfield) and pace down the left (something we also lack). You're telling me that in a straight choice between Reid and Boa Morte on the left, you would choose Reid?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Poor Andy gets a hard time, give him a chance, i think he looks promising.

    ReplyDelete
  90. here some extra comments from the dutch guy. Feyenoord has no money to buy players like davis, brown etc.. so mark was not at the stadium to look at some players and if we are sooooo interested in kuyt we are going to them and not in het opposite direction what´s happened now. Believe me Jol is going to get mark wotte to the spurs. Wotte is technical director at feyenoord and he is responsible for buying players so as Frank A. was. Let´s see and wait what will happen. Please remind my comments if it´s true what i think

COME ON YOU SPURS WE LOVEEEEE YOU

    ReplyDelete
  91. Who do you think should be first choice strike force? I think Mido teams up well with both Keane & Defoe. Really hope Robbie stays not so bothered about Kanoute, he looks half asleep at times.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Kanoute must go defoe, mido, kean are world class but kanoute just aint cutting it, but if he goes whos good enough to take mido on for first team place, or why else change him

    ReplyDelete
  93. Don't understand why Spurs have not come out and said anything about the "pitbull" . Do they forget about us lot ? Why wait just tell us ,so we can sleep at night i'm knackered .

    ReplyDelete
  94. who can identify the player who is sitting next to rocket ronnie rosenthal on the picture on the spurs community site????? maybe glen johnson??

    ReplyDelete
  95. Maybe I can let you sleeping well tonight with telling you that our PITBULL EDGAR will be announched tomorrow as a spurs player together with our new sporting director Mark wotte!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. oh sorry not tomorrow but coming monday

    my excuses!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Boring, boring, boring!
    Enough already.

1)Let's burn Reid at the stake.

2)Give an Ex gooner 30 thousand a week of yid cash.

    3) Sell Kanooute cause he's got no hair.

    4) Speculate over cloggs and mystery Brazilians while we've just played a game..........

    Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

    ReplyDelete
  98. maybe than the deal is finalised also with wotte.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Hey, anonomous dutch guy. Interesting info about Mark wotte. Question for you though, is he any bloody good? Whats his record like?

By the way, I think its so cool that spurs have foreign supporters. Are spurs your main team or just your favourite premiership team??

On another note, I'm convinced from the story about Davids at Reading today that the deal is done and dusted. It must be a double (or even triple) unveiling which is causing the delay.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Wotte you lot talking about? Ofcourse Wotte is going to be our new DOF and will be announced with Davids on Monday! and potentially AVM

    ReplyDelete
  101. sell Kanoute and buy Adriano Leite Ribeiro hell score goals....

    ReplyDelete
  102. spurs is in my hart!!!!!!! i´m also a ajax supporter, but the spurs ar coming first. I´m now for around 16 years spurs fan and follow everything about the spurs and dutch football. So Mark Wotte is a good guy only at his current job at Feyenoord he did not so good, but the problem over there is that the don´t have money so he must buy players for 2 pounds. I hope he can take kuyt with him, but my heart say that kuyt is not coming. Davids deal is also done don´t be panic everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Any other good feyenoord players he might bring with him? Don't know the team too well.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Henrik Larsson would make a good replacement for kanoute and not played much for barca so they might let him go lol

    ReplyDelete
  105. THBN, can you shed some light on whether it will be Wotte, Van der Meyde or somebody/nobody unveiled when Davids is. Please give us some info, as exciting as the speculating is it is clearly driving us all nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  106. i think the "Pitbull" is all done and dusted and can't wait for season to start . But i think we all agree Defoe and Mido are MJ favourite but do you agree with keep changing ? i.e 60-70 minutes gone Keane and Kanoute come on for Defoe and Mido in every game . I think play same pair until injured or poor form , let them have 5-6 full games together ?? MJ is trying to keep them all happy .

    ReplyDelete
  107. Does anyone know what the guy is a Spurs that I think is in charge of matchday security, hes always walking around - he sthe one who is the Spitting Image of Davids ie the one with the dreadlocks

Anyone know who i mean ?

Wonder if theyve met yet ?

    ReplyDelete
  108. i know exactly who you mean, hes in the lower section

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yep thats him

He is normally around the tunnel area

Be funny when they meet,Double take or what ?

  110. My Grandad was spurs my dad was chelsea and my uncle is scum they all took me to games when i was little. i was never going to be a scubag coz my dad said i could support any1 but the scum. My 1st game was the 3-1 win against the scum at Wembley when i was 4 ever since then i was hooked.

I think that the delay for the Davids deal is because they will show off 2 more players and a dof allong side Davids. I think that we have that wotte as a new dof and he has put of Levy in buying avm and they are trying to get Castalan and Kuyt.

  111. still feel defense is not strong enough

    ReplyDelete
  112. i think we could do with some more cover for defence i know it's strongish at the moment but can't help thinking we could spend some dough on Stam maybe, what do you reckon after all Dawson is new to prem

    ReplyDelete
  113. I think young Kelly has a lot to learn. I know he is only a kid, but he is forever jumping in to tackles he will simply not get. I am not slating the youngster, he just needs to learn to bide his time defensivly

    ReplyDelete
  114. Stam would not come back to England after the Man U. dabacle.

    ReplyDelete
  115. a young roberto carlos would be great

    ReplyDelete
  116. 11:32 isn't Castolan a striker/right winger.
VDM a left winger who can play right, doesnt add up ,sorry.
could this not just be a group of Dutch peeps getting together?

    ReplyDelete
  117. what about a couple of greeks they surprised us in the euro

    ReplyDelete
  118. i know cloning illegal but a back 4 of roberto would be cool expect a few broken legs tho lol

    ReplyDelete
  119. Most of the Greeks are over 30. Not quite the age we seem to be signing.

    ReplyDelete
  120. ok, didnt know they past it sos what about larson? in replace for kanoute

    ReplyDelete
  121. Larsson broke his leg after a good start at Barca. They said at the time they would back him till he wanted to retire. Larsson then said Barca would be his last club.

    ReplyDelete
  122. dont know alot do i it seems??
    ill shut up.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I would love him tho, cause he was one of the best players ever to play in Scotland. He did very well in Europe too.

    ReplyDelete
  124. annon 11:32 i'm jelous, I wish my first game had been 3:1 against Arse at wembly... Gazza's freee kick.... I can still ere the comentator... Is he going to try one....
I think he is you know.... then whooooooosh rrriiiipppp as the ball hit the net.....
More days like that to come

I think Mark Watt sounds good
    Davids is the lynchpin
    Kuyt or VDM
then leave it, give our new team a chance, the nucleus is their plus we don't want another season of transition.
With Liverpool having such a long season ( I hope them and Everton get into the league stage then knocked into Uefa Cup, that way they will be knackered and have European hangover suffer in the league... leaving that Champs league spot for US!!!!!!
I agree with previous post we need to trim the squad. I think 30 max sell and loan the rest. Who got ideas on who should stay, sell, loan......
Give the whole rundown, who stays and why etc.. Or THBN make this a new thread after the unveiling on Monday
    Who stays who goes?????

    ReplyDelete
  125. bunje - he's bollocks
    kanoute - if kuyt comes
davis - quite far down the pecking order
    mendes - same 4 him
jackson - championship is better for him
ifil - LOAN DO NOT GET RID
davenport - havnt seen much of him, dnt tink hes good enough
paramarot - do not rate him

    ReplyDelete
  126. I don't think any of us know what Davis can do or how he would work out in the Spurs setup. We haven't seen him kick a ball yet - not this season either.

    ReplyDelete
  127. ...but it would have been a laugh if Simon Davies would have stayed, to hear commentary on a Spurs game with a midfield of Davis, Davies and Davids.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I think we should send Fullop on loan, same with Ifil, let Bungy go, sell Gardner Paramot and Davenport, Sell Brown, Jackson Mendes and Davis (I think he deserves the chance of first team football elsewhere. Sell Kanoute if Kuyt comes in, let Marney go on loan, and poss Lennon. All with the option to recall if we have severe injuries. Poss let Barnard go on loan.
Let them go to clubs in Championship oe first div so they get regular games battling ready for next season when we need them for the Saturday after Champs League game

Anybody else notice that once we did the deal with Chelscum over FA, saying he's with us till Sept 1st, then two days later Chelski sign a 14 yr old from Reading, THBN team can you look into that.. sounds bloody shady, I thought straight away it was Franks choice?????????????

    ReplyDelete
  129. well i'm workin in the morning and want to be up Monday for the unveiling, so G'night people, i'll dream of our happy successful future with more trophies at the lane.

  130. Who said the unveiling is on Monday? Where is the source?

    ReplyDelete
  131. my frist match was in 1962so come on you lillywhites hope 4 a good year this year and will win beat the asshole 2s this year

    ReplyDelete
  132. Most likely that the unveiling will be on Monday.

    1) For the stock market "Look we've acquired a nice piece of asset which will improve the price of the other assets we already have"
    2) Double unveiling if we have another person (player/non-player) recruited as well

    ReplyDelete
  133. on monday they will unveiling davids and wotte as new members of the tottenham squad en DOF. I think vdm and kuyt will not come. We have a pretty good squad now only an attacking midfielder is missing but avm and kuyt are not attacking midfielders.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I have a feeling that Tainio might be the attacking midfielder that we need. His incessant box-to-box running will create a lot of services either straight through to the forwards or allow the wings to push forward early, ready to receive the ball and run with it.

With Davids in the picture, we might see Carrick becoming his understudy and spending a lot more time on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  135. lets hope so!!
    No drive,energy or goals.
I actually think he has an adverse affect on tempo of team.
agree that the flying Finn could be the answer

  137. I wouldn't be kicking a potential England World Cup midfielder out of our squad too soon. True, Carrick and Davids aren't natural goal scorers but you can't always get 'everything' into one starting XI.
We have arguably one of the best striking forces in the Premiership today and we can afford - allbeit with a grudge - to play with non-goal-scoring midfielders.

    ReplyDelete
  138. It is about adding another dimension to our play. If 90% of our goals only come from strikers then it is fair bet that our opponents will just focus more on marking our 2 front guys. So statistically we will have our chance of scoring reduced to about 10%? I mean everybody knows that compared to strikers, midfielders dont really shoot that well (except for those in the Lampard/Gerrard class).

So was it any coincidence that Defoe scored only 2 goals in the second half of last season? He was tackled/body checked as soon as he got the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I think that if we manage to get VDM and Kuyt we really will have a team to challenge the big boys.
We do need to clear out some of the dross to give us a more tidy and compact squad. The likes of Jackson, Bunje and all the other clowns need to go !. THBN what is the current situation with VDM ? do you think there is some connection with the Davids delay and his potential arrival ??

    ReplyDelete
  140. find it a bit strange that MJ talks about Tiannio(or however you spell his name)!!! in the same breath as Scholes but no-one seems to give him much chance of starting alongside Davids.

    ReplyDelete
  141. yeh I am here. working! ok Porto match will give us an idea what the real first team is probably gonna look like.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Is this the only THBN blog open? - at least we can jump from one to the other - why do they keep closing THBN?

    ReplyDelete
  143. Can't you leave one permanently open?

  144. Check this out, following article which reported Mancini slagging off Davids...

    From Inter's official site:

With regard to an article in today's Mail on Sunday that includes sentences about Roberto Mancini, FC Internazionale categorically denies what was written. Roberto Mancini did not make such declarations about Edgar Davids, and the club confirms that the coach was not interviewed by the journalist who wrote the article, nor by the newspaper named above.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Strange isnt it ? If there gonna close why not shut the whole thing down.

So what do you think - Van Der meyde possibility or what ?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Did you see the photo of Davids and co at Reading - the Feyenoord DOF, old pal of Jol, could be signing? Jol said not interested in VDM or the striker Kyijt(eh?)? Still I couldn't stop laughing at everything today I'm high on the Davids thing if it collapses I'll be jumping off the roof!

    ReplyDelete
  155. can't understand why Spurs have said nothing since Friday lunch time ? I think it's all done and dusted as he was at Reading , but even then they say nothing ?

Who Knows - He also said that if Davids head is right we have got THE best midefielder in prem outside of gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  158. did u read News of World today ?
They said Davids is a "Psycho"
That word in football means "A Winner" and we have never had that ?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Reckon Dan Levy has got about £15 million burning a hole in his pocket - how much a CL place worth?

    ReplyDelete
  160. Yeah I read it and totally agree. We have missed a ball wining put your foot in midfielder since ............ well i cant even remember er Vinny Samways .........Ok im joking but you know what i mean

If hes right he will improve all around him by 50pcent.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Vinny Samways lol i think Davids will be nearly if not a little better than Dozzel !!

    Come on the Pittbul

    ReplyDelete
  162. Looks like Brown could be joining the original Psycho Pearce at Man Shity

    ReplyDelete
  163. Brown done well for us last season , he worked so hard and i think we should keep him as a squad player

    ReplyDelete
  164. Didnt Brown start out at Man city ??? think he did.

    Hed do well there -

God remember Jose Dominguez - had to be the worlds smallest player.

Pocket sized or what.I swear if he was on the left wing and someone sneezed in the west stand hed fall over.Gow weve had some classics - Ruel "de" Fox

    ReplyDelete
  165. do we know what time press conference is tomorrow ? What time does the stock market open as it will be after that ? i think about 1%

    ReplyDelete
  166. Davids signing extra sweet just as Viera leaves the arse - in their desperation to replace him they've found some south american keeper also called Viera!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Sneeze in the West Stand ?? are they real people ?

    ReplyDelete
  168. Agree - Brown never let us down.

Works his nuts off.WHY is Bunjecivic still there,Whata legacy from the hoddle days - What a waste of a salary

Can we play em every week ?

    ReplyDelete
  177. so what do u think about MJ and his strikers > I love MJ but he does not know who to play , Defoe , Mido are his starters i think but 60-70 minutes gone Kanoute and Keane will be on ? I'd like to see 6_7 games with the same two play all the game ? subject to injury or bad form

    ReplyDelete
  178. Carrick thought he'd scored but it was given O.G. lol
Going to Park Lane for Porto - last time I was down there I was standing!
